Dr. John Thomas Stanton, MD

Went to emergency room with a knee problem. After all xrays, ultrasounds etc. were done, he reviewed all the findings, explained his diagnosis, then changed his prescription choice based on patient input. Outstanding bedside manner, friendly, explains using common terminology rather than complicated medical lingo.If he were not exclusively an Emergency Medicine specialist I'd choose him as a primary care physician in a heartbeat!

The first thing that irritated me about Dr. Stanton was his cocky, "I do no wrong" attitude. I was told I had a stomach ulcer after having blood drawn and urine tested. I specifically requested any type of test that would confirm the diagnosis and was told no, he would not perform $500 worth of tests that would probably tell him the same thing. OK, fine. I went to my GP the next day and was asked what the ER doc (Stanton) said about all the blood in my urine. It was never mentioned at the ER. My GP commented that she was shocked the ER doc didn't perform more tests after seeing the results of my blood and urine tests. I realize I am not a doctor, but I believe patients sometimes know when something is really wrong and should be listened to. Another thing that irritated me was refusal to help with pain. I had severe pain in my upper abdomen any time I ate anything, preventing me from eating or drinking anything other than water. He said he prescribed Zantac and that it would start… working in a few weeks. Really? A FEW WEEKS? There are too many medications, narcotic and otherwise, that could've helped with my pain. My GP prescribed something (non-narcotic) that has helped enormously. The final straw was when I requested a prescription for the Zantac rather than pay for it OTC. He said he would, however he did not when paperwork came out. I felt like this doctor wanted to shove me out of the ER as fast as he could b/c he was busy. God forbid this ever happen with someone with a much more serious condition.
