Dr. John Francis Steege, MD

This guy has such a high opinion of himself that he never condescends to speak to the mere mortals who are his patients. When I was his patient I would leave messages with the best times to reach me, and he inevitably phoned at the times I had told him I would be unavailable! The most flagrant example of his scorn for actual patients is in his supposedly authoritative book on Pelvic Pain. There is a chapter entitled "A Patient's Point of View." But does it have a real patient's point of view? or even a collection of survey responses? Not on your life. This sanitized account of one patient, written by Dr. Steege's stalwart nurse, if you can believe it, quotes two or three phrases from the actual patient--and only her most sycophantic comments. Obviously it never occurred to His Highness that readers of "A Patient's Point of View" might want to hear the point of view of--gasp!--an actual patient. He probably doesn't even think any of his patients know how to write. His arrogance is that… extreme.

No bedside manner--has the god syndrome. He raises his voice and throws tantrums. He sees his patients for a matter of minutes and feels he has an immediate window into their entire well being--unfortunate. He will turn you away if you have complications. Sad that women have to endure his I know more about you than you attitude. He uses terms like, "the patient will not admit being improved or better!' How can anyone get the help they need when a physician is documenting misinformation like this-- this information is carried with you to another physician. Shame!

I have been with Dr. Steege for many years and I have always felt that he care for what I was going through and he sure helped me when other Drs couldn't. I am very thankful for what he has done for me.

Dr. Steege was able to perform my very complicated hysterectomy by laparoscopy. I had already been to 4 doctors before him. Only one attempted a surgery but the others turned me away because of the difficulty of my case. He's not super friendly but I thought he was nice enough. I had a mostly pain free recovery with no complications. As for the rest of the staff...don't go to a teaching hospital expecting to get the red carpet rolled out for you. They act as if you are priveledged to be there. But, for me it was all worth it to have my issue resolved.

I had a problem that I had seen several other physicians for. Dr. Steege and his staff were spot on with diagnosis and treatment. I ended up having surgery which solved my problem! I always felt comfortable with him and his staff.

He performed surgery immediately after which I experienced conplications. He was more than callous and uncaring, he was extremely rude; blamed a student for the error (though had previously assured me he, himself would be performing the surgery. A dreadful man, an awful experience.

He kept me waiting for over 2 hours in the exam rooming with half my clothes off. And then when he did arrive, he was rushed and said that he had to leave to go to an "meeting" and this was after I had waiting over two months for the appointment. So I waited two months for the appt, 2 hours in the exam room and he rushes out and doesn't even treat me for the reason I came.

I had a great experience as a patient of Dr. Steege's. I have been through 7 surgeries and he was able to recommend a new treatment for me that did not involve another surgery and it worked! I consider him a life changing person to me.
