John Sunew

Dr Sunew was my cardiologist for 4 years. In the last year, I became active in my treatment and health condition. Dr Sunew started insisting in prescribing a new injected drug for lowering my LDL-C. I requested Dr Sunew a CAC score test before taking this medication. After some discussion, he reluctantly prescribed the CAC score test. The result of the test indicated mild calcification. He kept insisting in prescribing the new drug. I then requested a more specific evaluation of my heart with a Coronary CT Angiography. Dr Sunew denied me the prescription of such test. I decided not to continue with Dr Sunew and went to see a new cardiologist. The new cardiologist listened to my concerns and agreed with me that having a more specific test was not a bad idea. The Coronary CT Angiography revealed a 80-90% blockage in one on my coronary arteries. We scheduled the surgery that resulted in finding and opening the blockage and implanting a 32mm stent, saving me from an imminent heart… attack.

I have called 8 days in a row and yet to receive a call back from anyone at multiple locations. I have even tried to email Dr Sunew personally and nothing. I was asked by the Dr Sunew to wear a heart event monitor for 7 days and then told no results were recorded because staff "forgot" to upload my information. As someone who has worked in medical for 12 years I would highly suggest anyone to stay clear of Memorial Katy Cardiology if you value your health.

Staff make you feel welcome, the doctor actually listens to you and takes the time to find out how to help you. My bloodpressure is good for the first time in several years.

Dr Sunew took great care of my father this weekend. He placed 2 stents for him. He explained everything to us and made us feel very comfortable with the procedure. I highly recommend him!
