Dr. Jon Haruyuki Morikawa, MD

I am a doctor. Dr M was recommended to me. He is nice and comes across as competent, BUT 1. Why prescribe Valtrex (medication for herpes) for a professional woman who has told you she is in a long term, monogamous relationship (15+ years, 4 kids) and has no history of STDs? 2. And why also order this woman to take tests for gonorrhea and chlamydia? My close friends in both family medicine (Dr Teule-Hekima of Hampton, VA) and OB/GYN (Dr C. Booth of Fayetteville, NC) say that this is NOT standard of care. So, it can only mean that Dr M presumes that any of his non-white, non-Japanese patients are lying to him (ie, are engaged in risky sexual behavior despite what they report) and/or they are automatically be at “high risk” by virtue of their race (the person who referred me to him - a white woman - said he did not do ANY of this with her. VERY INSULTING and obviously racist (what other explanation is there??) Also: staff very cold and rude, especially Jennifer. It’s taken me >5… yrs to get up the nerve to write this review, but it’s time.

I have been Dr. Moriakwa's patient for 30 years! He is knowledgeable, thorough, patient and kind. I would not even think to go anywhere else for my care. He is second to none!

He's a very good doctor. He delivered my first child and makes you feel very relaxed when in labor. He's funny and makes you feel very comfortable during appointments. Answers all your questions and gives very good advice. The only thing is that he's located only at kapiolani. But on the bright side, if you're pregnant and was to go into labor, he would be right there and there would be no need to wait for him.
