Jon L. Pertab, PhD

Dr Jon Pertab was excellent. In my 4 hour evaluation and testing he was professional, kind, understanding and explained thoroughly the process of my visit. After testing was complete, he reviewed the his finds, explained the scoring and how it related to my condition. He made recommendations and gave me a pamphlet with very helpful suggestions to incorporate into daily routines to cope with my condition. My wife was very impressed. We highly recommend his services without any reservations.

I am very tired of carrying the burden of knowing that this man might be hurting other patients as much or more than he hurt me. One therapist called it, "playing with fire" which is especially interesting since the last thing Pertab said to me was that he was going to "let it burn out" and he suggested I do the same. The problem is I was there for TBI and a broken me so "it" was me and that was not a fair suggestion. He implied that our sessions had come to an end due to countertransference but then denied that. He admitted that he broke me when he said, "I did not mean to" in response to my comment of "you broke me." This was after enduring 2 weeks of some intense manic cycling. But he also denied the mania. And made sure nobody would talk to me or allow me to talk about or get clarification on what was actually happening to my brain. Thus he kept me from getting the help I needed while also feeding the manic side of things. Which he really did not need to do because, whether he… meant to or not, he had played on my strengths and vulnerabilities and my feelings for him to manipulate me to protect himself. I wasn't willing to say the things that could really get him into trouble to anyone that could cause him to loose his license. Ultimately I was exiled from his facility to cover the mistakes that he (and then others) made with me... It has caused significant problems. Please know I would so much rather not be writing this. I trusted them and kept giving them the benefit of the doubt. I tried following their rules and I expected my patient rights to be upheld but ultimately how I was handled, mishandled, set up, and discarded when I was so very broken and so very vulnerable does suggests some serious deviance from both him and the Neuroscience Institute and I know it is foolish to believe we are the only one in situations like this. I am tired of carrying the burden of knowing that Jon Pertab just might be a grooming psychologist. I am not hiding but he is. It breaks my heart and I hope it is not true, so take this how you will, but I would like the events that transpired to be gone from my head and the sense of obligation to warn others gone as well. With TBI we are so often voiceless and powerless and significantly misunderstood so it is especially important that others be warned and protected especially when the IHC providers whose job is to do that are not. AS it has always been, clarification and reconciliation are invited, I would love to retract this statement, but as it stands so does the need for this review as a warning and support to who may also being carrying such a burden.

Excellent neuropsychologist. He really understands people and brain injuries. He is caring and very professional. We need more providers like him. Highly recommend.
