I had laser cataract surgery, correction of astigmatism. multifocal lens implants and the results were wonderful. My vision greatly improved with no problems such as floaters, flashes, halos. Dr. Portis was very informative about my eyes, the Lasik procedure I sought, and everything that was going to occur every step of the way- from the initial eye exams, to the pre-op, surgery, and post-op, and long term outcome. The only thing that I wish could be improved is that because Dr. Portis and staff are so busy (because they are good), the wait times can be a little lengthy...a small price to pay for a reputable office and staff!

Truth be told, no matter how many people told me that it would be quick and easy....I was so scared to get Lasik! But, the fact that I now needed both glasses and contacts made me put the fear aside. I was referred to Dr. Portis by a great friend who also happens to be a MD. Dr. Portis took the time to find the precise prescription...it was definitely worth the extra visits. He clearly explained every step of the procedure and the after care. Now a little over a week past Lasik and I could not be happier with my decision. The procedure was all of 15 minutes and honestly didn't hurt at all. All that anxiety was for nothing. If I could change anything, the only thing would be to say that I wish I did it sooner! I am so grateful to have found my new ophthalmologist!

Dr Portis removed a cyst from my left eye, and his professionalism, and staff were the best! I was made comfortable from the start regarding the procedure, how to prepare, and upon arrival to the surgical center, you are greeted by his surgical staff who really make you feel at ease. I felt no pain, did not have a anesetic, but rather eye drops, and a cream to deaden any pain. I had no pain that night after a 3pm surgery, and never even needed any meds other than the necessary antibiotic eye drops, to subdue any chance of infection. His command of eye surgeries is unmatched here in Hawaii in my opinion! I highly recommend him to any patient needing eye surgery!

Dr Portis did my LASIK surgery 4 months ago, and it went very well! I have 20/15 vision in both eyes now and have no complaints! He did an excellent job.

Dr. Portis is the consummate professional in every way. He told me about a procedure to fix clouded vision following cataract surgery and performed it himself. My right eye vision has been restored and I cannot thank him enough for educating me about the procedure.

Surgery was about 30 minutes behind schedule but was OK.

I was dreading cataract surgery, but it has been terrific. I can now see with better vision than ever before. The entire procedure with the laser and the toric lens being inserted has given me the best vision since I was a child. I can't wait to do the other eye. It is worth going to a doctor with a lot of experience and skill, both of which Dr. Portis has.
