Dr. Jonathan Ben Blitzer, MD

Dr. Blitzer has been treating me over a year now for my 2 cancers. He is a very caring professional with a vast knowledge of medical oncology, especially in my case which is very complicated. He explains everything in detail to me and my family who accompanies me and is readily available to answer any questions or concerns that I have with patience and sincere understanding. His extensive treatment plan for my condition is encouraging and I feel after leaving my appointment relaxed and relieved. I don't feel I am in a hurried atmosphere and was given more than enough time during each of our consultations. His staff at his office located at the Todd Cancer Pavilion in Long Beach is also exceptional as they are kind, caring and never have me waiting more than a few minutes to see Dr. Blitzer. The office is quite beautiful, serene and spacious enough to ensure privacy. I am very fortunate to have Dr. Blitzer as my medical oncologist and I know I am in the best care possible with… him.

Dr. Blitzer has been treating me over a year now for my 2 cancers. He is the utmost professional with the most warm hearted and caring attitude. He explains everything in detail to me and my family members and is available to address any inquiries I have. His treatment plan for my condition is encouraging and he also ordered additional testing to ensure nothing was left out, which I sincerely appreciated. I don't feel I am in a rushed environment but a very calm and peaceful setting and his entire staff have been so very kind every time I visited the office. His office located at the Todd Cancer Pavilion in Long Beach is quite beautiful, serene and with ample space to ensure privacy. It is extremely clean and well maintained. I am very lucky and fortunate to have Dr. Blitzer as my oncologist and I could not recommend him highly enough.

First initial visits were ok, however as time progressed (as with the cancer), he failed to provide any empathy for his patient. He does not allow the patient time to absorb the information and becomes visibly impatient if he has to repeat information more than once. When asked what stage of cancer it was, he replied "Stage 4. There, are you happy now!? This is why I don't like giving stages, it's just upsetting!" He later indicated "All reoccuring breast cancer is considered 'Stage 4'." even when the cancer cells were still limited to the breast area and slow growing.

Dr. Blitzer has been my doctor since 2015. Not only is he very knowledgeable, he treated me with such gentle care, compassion and professionalism that I am so thankful he is my doctor. He always assures me that I can call or come in anytime I feel the need.

My insurance changed and as a result, I has to see a new Oncologist. I was apprehensive about a major change but Dr. Blitzer was professional, courteous and very thorough. I highly recommend Dr. Blitzer.

Went to Dr. Blitzer awhile back. My cancer returned for the 3rd time and I had found another lump - Dr. Blitzer absolutely refused to order a PET scan on me. I finally had one ordered by my surgeon and not only did my tumor glow under the scan but I had a lymph node in the center of my chest also glowing. Had I not changed oncologist and got that PET scan I would probably be dead by now. Always go with your Gut and if a doctor won't order a test for you that you know every other cancer patient gets - then go elsewhere. It may just save your life!

I have to comment on Dr. Blitzer's level of patient - doctor communication and care. My father was a cancer patient of Dr. Blitzer's, and he is currently on home hospice care and getting progressively worse. He has terminal cancer. Over the past couple of months, my father was in the hospital, and then went to a nursing home to further recover and receive therapy. My mother was in contact with Blitzer's office for questions, etc. several times during this time and NOT ONCE did Dr. Blitzer ever see my father either in the hospital or nursing home. On my mothers 2nd to last phone call to his office, she asked for an estimate on how much time my father had left. The nurse to whom she was speaking said she would go ask the doctor - Dr. Blitzer DID NOT EVEN COME TO THE PHONE to talk to my mother. This is appalling and shameful, in my opinion. Moreover, his office later knew, via my mother's last call to them, that he was going on hospice care. Dr. Blitzer NEVER called, his… office didn't call either to follow up, Shame on him, and shame on the lack of communication, care, empathy etc. This is not the way to treat a patient!

after 4 visit with this doctor, felt he didn"t give a dam about me as a patient. i was with pacific shores cancer center before. insurance changed, and i got dr blitzer, he doesn"t know me or does he care. even tho i no longer with pacific shore center, they still call and ask how i am doing. was in the hospital for lung infection, pacific shores calleed. dr blitzer forget it.

My whole family went to get my husband biopsy results and we weer scared of what was to come. When we met with Dr. Blizter, we found him very warm and approachable and well informed. The treatment and caring was awesome we felt as we have never had anyone in our family with cancer...this was new venture we were not looking forward to.We go back in 4 months for another set of tests results and hope things will work out for my husband. We would refer others to Dr. Blizter's office.

We have seen many, many Oncologists/Hematologists over several years, for different family members. Dr. Blitzer is by far the most caring and knowledgable doctor in this area, who we have seen. Any doctor who is knowledgable and spends quality time with their patient is going to have a wait to see them, and the valuable time he spends treating each patient as an important individual is worth the wait.
