Dr. Jonathan Geoffrey Kelling, MD

Gave my mom back injection and it helped for awhile. Told us to come back if my mom's back spasm's flare up again which they did several months later. Staff said we don't have appt. for 2 weeks...ok..we went to see him in 2 weeks. Got there expecting the injection again...he said NO...I do not have time on my schedule. You have to set up another appt. for that and we need auth. from your ins. My mom said..I can pay cash...he said No..I don't have time. And then he said...if your pain is that bad you can go to the emergency room. We were shocked and confused as he had told us in the first visit to call whenever spasms started again and he would take care of my 90 yr. old mom who was in very bad pain and her blood pressure was 180 plus. We walked out of that office and never returned. Whatever training he has had it certainly lacked on his lessons of kindness, care and professionalism.

After reading great reviews about Dr Kelling and his desire to identify the root cause of spinal pain, I called the clinic before booking an appointment. My specific question was, 'Has Dr Kelling had experience with Zoster Sine Herpete - ZSH? (ZSH - aka 'Internal Shingles', which is extremely painful and progressively ravages the spine, joints and even organs.) I'm looking for a spine doctor who has experience.' Jennifer was very helpful, put me on hold and went to ask Dr Kelling. She came back with his answer, 'Yes, he said there are some things he can do to help you.' So I booked the appointment. When Dr Kelling arrived in the room for the appointment, he sat down and with no introduction or orientation to my condition, abruptly asked, 'What questions do you have for me?' My first question: 'What experience do you have with Zoster Sine Herpete?' His reply, 'None.' That's when I should have stood up, ended the session and declared that I would not be paying for this appointment -… because I had CALLED first, with a very specific and clear inquiry, and he gave me deceptive information. But instead, I continued with questions. 'How do you propose to help me?' Answer: 'We can do a Lumbar Medial Branch Block (Lidocaine-based solution) as a test to determine if we can temporarily relieve the pain.' [One set = 3 injections on each side of the lower spine = six total injections per set. This must be done twice, to prove its efficacy, before proceeding to the longer lasting solution of Lumbar Radiofrequency Ablation - RFA.] When I asked if he wanted imaging of my spine, such as an MRI, in order to assess the underlying issues and determine where to inject, he said, 'No, we just inject where it hurts.' WHAAAAAA? TWELVE INJECTIONS in my spine as a test - with no guidance and absolutely no medical knowledge of my condition?!?! Spinal injections have serious, inherent risks. I'm still dumbfounded about this entire experience, and I feel that others should know about Dr Kelling's One-Size-Fits-All handling of this very serious chronic spine disease, with which he admits to having ZERO EXPERIENCE. This is a prime example of why patients must do their own research, advocate for themselves, and be wary of medical practitioners who do not treat each patient as a unique person, whose body is different from any others. At the very least... Beware, do your homework, go in with specific questions, and ALWAYS get a second or third opinion. - Lisa C.

Wonderful staff and a very helpful doctor. He focused on addressing what was really causing my pain. He didn't just force pills on me. Great experience overall.

I was pleasantly surprised by this young man, he didn't just say take these drugs. He spent time with me, went over my MRI with me and explained what was causing my pain. He came up with a treatment and I feel better than I have in years. Thank you Dr. Kelling!

an MRI or X-ray you dismissed us forgetting that you had a patient who was frustrated and in pain and came to your office for help. As a doctor who has “many years” of experience why not show that in your table side Manner to your patients. Why not show that in the way you address and speak to people? Why not show that in your professional status as a doctor ? I hope you take the time to listen and not just speak to your patients. As for your office staff I’m not sure of the older lady I spoke to name but she violated hipaa and she read your doctors notes over the phone to me, again I’m not the patient. And after she did that she then too expressed her opinion. She was not asked of an opinion. Nor does she have any right to speak or go through a patients chart, is she a doctor ? If so why is she answering phones? and disclosing information about a patient to someone other than the patient? After speaking with her and seeing how unprofessional she was We decided it was best to find an… office that could be what they advertised. Which is to be an actual spine doctor. We found a new doctor who will be taking care of my husbands back. Someone who actually reviewed the MRI & X-RAY someone who listened and will be starting treatments on my husbands back. I hope you and your office read this and remember that you chose a career in dealing with people who are in constant pain or in need of help whether that be in surgery or physical therapy. Pain changes people. These People who don’t know everything that you spent time in going to school for, people who expect you to have solutions they are counting on you to be a good doctor. If you can not even provide the basics, you shouldn’t be a doctor.

He really seems to care. He doesn't just want to get you hooked on drugs, he actually tries to help.

He really spent his time with me, not like other doctors who act like they know everything. I feel like he is really working with me to help my pain.

At first, I was concerned because I have been of pain meds for years and he was telling me that they were causing some of my pain. I have been dependent of meds for years but, you know what, he was right. He got me off the meds and even though I still have some pain, I am a lot happier now than when I was taking all those medications.

He really took his time to listen to what was really going on. I have been in pain for years and even though I still have some pain, Dr. Kelling has worked hard to make my condition better.
