Dr. Jonathan Amarkwei Laryea, MD

Dr. Laryea was very good and kind to me when I was in patient at UAMS. I've been back to his office a couple times for follow-ups and he seem to be bothered when I return the second time because it took 2 hours the first time to see him and we did not get to cover everything that needed to be covered the first appointment because of the length of waiting. I definitely trust him I trust his judgement just disappointed in the office visits.

I read nothing but good things about Dr. Laryea. I was excited to make an appointment. However, that never happened due to the unprofessionalism of the staff on the phone. One lady told me that for a self referral seeing my PCP about my problem was not required in order to make an appointment but since I had seen a pcp to go ahead and send what I had (even after I told her that I called my pcp and they said there was not much in my paperwork regarding my problem, I was just told verbally to get stuff over the counter). My pcp asked if I could contact uams to do a release of information so they could send my paperwork. When I asked someone here she rudely stated that she is not obligated to do that, since it’s a self referral “You need to do the footwork, not me”. I let that go and went and did the “footwork” myself. My pcp said it would take a few days. Someone from Uams called me and rudely stated that “it’s been almost 2 weeks since we opened this case, it shouldn’t take this… long, and she’s closing my case at the end of the business day”. I called my pcp to see about the paperwork and they had gotten behind but sent it right over. When I called Uams to see if they received it and to make my appointment, a different lady told me that there was nothing in that paperwork indicating my problem and that I could not make an appointment. I said that is not what I was told, otherwise I wouldn’t have went through all of this. She said that’s our policy, sorry. I hung up and immediately called a different colorectal office. I was able to make a consultation appointment for the next week. I would suggest making sure all employees are on the same page about policies so that valuable time is not wasted and have them take a customer service etiquette class. I should not feel I am being treated less than a person when I personally wanted to bring my business to you.

Dr. Laryea is my most favorite doctor. I recommend him to all of my friends and family.

A great surgeon with the best bedside manner. Seems to be genuinely concerned with my needs and fears. Would recommend him to anyone, especially the ones I love. God bless.
