Dr. Jonathan Dean Powell, MD

Not ready to listen and pretty tough on response during the sick time. Will not recommend and even i changed the practice.

Dr. Powell was on call when I needed a time sensitive prescription filled. My daughter recently began having debilitating migraines and after using her last dose the night before and the prescription not being refilled appropriately I was forced to call answering service because the sooner she takes the medicine the more effective it is. Dr. Powell argued that it was too early to be woken. Dr. Powell also argued that “it would take over two hours to get the prescription filled anyway.” And that now he had “to look into a case that he knew nothing about.” I have had wonderful experiences with ALL of the female practitioners at Sanders. Although it is upsetting to me that the male practitioners have been less than helpful in my experiences.

I have taken my four girls to Dr. Powell for the last 13 years. He is a wonderful doctor, I highly recommend him. He is very straight forward and listens to your concerns.

Horrible attitude towards my teenager addressing GI issues. Accused her of being untruthful with her answers and was happy when he supposedly "called her out on it". Unfriendly and unhelpful. Not interested in helping your child's concerns at all. Do NOT see this doctor.

I have been taking my children to this office for 7 years. While I agree with the previous "complaints" most non-medical professionals do not realize that after hour phone calls are to determine if the patient needs immediate care that can no wait until normal office hours. We don't call the mechanic in the middle of the night asking for him to diagnose and treat our car without physically seeing it. Enough of that. I've never had to wait more than 15mimutes past my apt time, I have always been able to get in same day when my children are sick. I've never felt rushed or felt dismissed. Staff is always courteous and informative. Dr Powell has actually stayed late giving us reassurance on a concern he had with my child. He is a very straight foward kind of doctor. He tells you what he thinks, what the outcome will be and if not to please call him or come in. We never leave the office not knowing what to expect. I HIGHLY recommend him to all parents especially thought looking to… avoid unneeded medicine/antibiotics.

Dr. Powell is great with my boys! We have been very happy with him

If you're looking for a doctor who will over-medicate your child or immediately prescribe antibiotics, Dr. Powell is NOT the doctor for you. If, however, you value the opinion of a doctor who understands immunology and recognizes when medication is needed versus when an over anxious parent is looking for the quick fix, then Dr. Powell is definitely the one for you. We've had the pleasure of bring our children to Dr. Powell for many years now, and value his opinions greatly. Being a scientist myself, it's nice to talk with someone who actually understands how the body works, and not rush to prescribe antibiotics for everything. It's all about philosophies, and Dr. Powell has the correct one.

This Doctor is garbage. There is no other way to express this. He has no compassion for his patients whatsoever, and if your his last appointment, forget it! He will treat you like garbage, and rush you out. Nevertheless, despite any time of the day it may be- he will never have time for any of your questions.. He doesn't even care if your a first time parent. Your child can literally be gasping for air, and his theory is "Is he peeing, is he pooping? He's fine!" Seriously, he has honestly told me that on several occasions... He had also even mentioned and suggested that my son diet at only 3 months old!........ Anyways, today I called in to report that my son was wheezing, having trouble breathing, and was quite congested. He didn't even call me back. Instead, as he always does, he had his nurse call and instruct me to give my son water and children's Tylenol. First of all, he gives Tylenol to my son for EVERYTHING!! He has never once prescribed him anything else, and again- it's his… solution to EVERYTHING! Second of all, I said my son is wheezing and having trouble breathing.. Now, I'm not a doctor, but I'm pretty sure water and Tylenol isn't the solution to breathing problems... Therefore, I went for a second opinion... It turns out, my son has bronchitis. My tiny little 14 month old son has bronchitis, and Dr. Powell had done nothing. He hadn't asked to see him, nor had he been concerned enough to return my phone call himself.. Now my baby needs to use a home nebulizer, and take a series of medications to recover from his infection that has now gone farther than it ever needed to thanks to this worthless doctor.. So ask yourself, is this who you would trust with your babies?? I really wish I would have had someone to warn me of this doctor, but all I can do now is warn others.. :( I never want what I have gone through with my son to ever happen to someone else.... NOW PLEASE, SPREAD THE WORD!

Dr. Powell cares about everyone under his care. I am amazed at how much time he gives to my son by talking through problems and offering solutions. In our latest appointment Dr. Powell gave nearly an hour talking with my son through issues in his life. I didn't know there were doctors that went so far above and beyond the call of duty any longer. I would highly recommend Dr. Powell.

Dr. Powell is very informative and friendly. He always listens to my concerns as a first time mom and has always (I've felt) given me the best advice. I suppose that is because he has young children himself and knows what you are going through. His approach to medical care is to NOT over-medicate, which I love. So if you are looking for a pediatrician who will prescribe antibiotics easily and readily then this is definitely not the dr for you. Waiting in the office for appts are quick and painless. I only waited a long time (I think 45 min) once and that was because his morning rounds in L&D were backed up. His staff informed me when I signed in and gave me the option of waiting or rescheduling.
