Dr Jonathan Quinby

I am a patient of Dr. Quinby’s for a few years. He is excellent and trustworthy, as is his staff. Highly recommend!

I’m sharing my terrible and life changing experience with Dr. Jonathan Quinby, of Quinby Orthopedics. I had what was supposed to be a “simple” (as he described it) ganglion cyst removal from my wrist, and Dr Quinby ended up severing my EPL tendon which is the long tendon that controls the end/top joint of the thumb. The thumb on my dominant hand, mind you, is permanently affected. My thumb droops down, I cannot extend the tip properly, and my thumb drags when doing certain, everyday functions. He did not even know that he severed it, which is the most disturbing part of the story. It is disturbing that he cut this tendon at all, and even more disturbing he did not know that he cut it and then stitched me up like that. To add insult to injury, the cyst came back in 6 months, but now is higher on my wrist due to the incision/scar line. I would caution anyone who is considering this doctor for any type of surgery to beware. Choose your doctor and their specialty better, which is my… lesson, learned too late.

Overall the worst experience ever! He has no listening skills and he doesn't care about he's new patient. He is not willingness to spend any time with you. He's in and out of the room within 10 minute! A waste of $40.00 and my time! Clear explanation not really; he just handed me the result and told me you have (3) option and left the room. The worst bedside manner I have seen in 53 years. He's very rude and arrogant!!! He has no empathy for he's patients! All, he wants to do is talked about himself; he's degree and years of service; he doesn't have time to talk about anything else. I don't trust him regarding any decision making for me regarding surgery or, treatment. He's rude and childish! Regarding accuracy of diagnosis; I saw his assistant more than I saw him. She showed more empathy and patience regarding his patient's than he did. She tried to smooth things over and fix he's short coming! I am so disappoint in BSW Hospital for hiring someone like him!!!!

Dr. Quinby does not listen to his patients. Two times before the surgery I requested a CMP machine and a rehab center for my recovery as I lived alone. He was very arrogant and said we do not do either of those as we want you up and performing your usual activities. I was released 24 hours following the surgery. I was forced to hire health care assistance on my own to supplement the home health care. I started to experienced severe pain in the back of the surgical knee and when I told his staff they said it was normal. Then I began suffering from shortness of breath. I went to my primary care (PC) physician and was diagnosed with blood clots behind my surgical knee and in my lung and was immediately admitted to the hospital. I completely blame Dr. Quinby for my experiencing life threatening blood clots and an additional financial burden caused by an additional 10 day hospital stay.

I'm the patient who wrote the review below. I have confirmation of another cartilage defect, due to doctor quinbys meniscus trim. This, after I specifically asked for no meniscus trim due to proven history of articular cartilage damage. It matters not how small the tear is, its removal results in increased articular cartilage forces. This has been generally known now for around 10 years.

1) At the time during pre-op visits, he offered me a highly invasive procedure as an option. I turned it down and went with the least invasive. The surgery failed. After failing, I inquired on the alternate option he had brought up in our pre-surgical meeting. Well, he back-pedaled and said that it wasn't a good option because the 2-year results are pretty good, but the 5-year results are unacceptable. I want the reader to think about that......the surgeon was willing to give me a knee surgery knowing that it's only good for roughly 2 years and by the way, this highly invasive surgery takes about a year to recover from to begin with! I consider this unethical. 2) Lastly, the surgeon will not respect patient wishes and instructions! I told him that in the case that a meniscus tear was found during surgery, to just leave it alone. He could photograph it for documentation and that I would possibly get a stem cell injection for it. The background that I discussed in detail… with him was that I had a devastating outcome due to meniscus trim in the past and wished to not have that done again. Roughly two days prior to surgery, I called the Medical assistant to again reiterate my directive for no additional procedures to be performed on my knee, other than the procedure that I had agreed upon. Well, I woke up and the nurse told me the doctor removed a meniscus tear!!!!!!!!!!! (Warning: mensicus tear surgery CAUSES arthritis.....all doctors know this by now and should abandon this damaging surgery)

Dr. Quinby spent maybe 15 minutes with me while I sat in a chair in patient room. After I described my hip issues and said I had been to a previous orthopedic who prescribed six weeks of physical therapy which only seemed to make it worse, he touched "poked" the area which hurt. This was while I was still sitting in the chair not on the exam table. He promptly said a steroid injection is the answer. After receiving the injection I asked him if there would be a follow up. He said if you need one to call the office. Within one month I was looking for further help with my hip and am stuck with a bill of $152 which my insurance did not pick up. Would not recommend.

Shoulder surgery, tears in all 3 lobes of the rotator cuff, internal damage from age, reattached torn bicep. Healed and regained 100% mobility. 4 years later perfect. Just have to follow Dr's instructions, work hard in rehab and take the TIME to heal. Dr told me I would not heal properly if I didn't stop smoking. Funny, no one ever explained the facts effectively like that before. Worked. 4 years later, still perfect.

Dr. Quniby is a great physician but his office staff is very unprofessional, his Asst. Anna is very rude and her lack of empathy should guide her to a career not working with humans. My personal experience: I call to schedule an appt. and the appt. confirmed on the day of the appt. the office call to confirm appt. for another day and tell me that I was wrong about the appt. date this happened twice. 2nd complaint my condition required a MRI and tried twice to get the MRI one without medication and the 2nd with medication pills. I could not go thru w/the MRI. I'm claustrophobic. I spoke with Anna Dr.'s Asst. and asked was there something else I could do she said tough luck. 3rd complaint I had a f/u appt. and the office called to confirmed the appt. and when I arrived to the office s/w Anna and billing Mgr. Cheryl told me that I could not be seen due to remaining balance from last office visit. Could someone have told me I had a balance prior to appt. like when I called to… schedule appt. or when they call me the day prior to appt. to confirm. 4th complaint I asked for a copy of my diagnostic results they gave me a CD with none of my results buts lots of other vital info. that I'm certain I should not have..... so glad I'm not an identity thief.
