Jose A. Canseco, MD, PhD

Dr. Canseco is a highly skilled surgeon. I had a spinal fusion and have had no pain or complications since the surgery. Dr. Canseco took the time to answer all my questions. He is one of the most caring and compassionate Dr.'s I have ever been to. I highly recommend Dr. Canseco to anyone that needs back surgery.

I had lumbar decompression surgery six weeks ago, and everything went really well. I would first like to give credit where credit is due — Dr. Canseco, Dr Ryan and his team have been wonderful since my very first appointment. The last thing I wanted to do was have surgery on my spine, but I trusted Dr. Canseco, and I’m so glad I did. I can now stand and walk with no pain, which is truly life-changing. Dr. Canseco is friendly, extremely caring, and very thorough when explaining every step of the surgery process. I would also like to give a huge shout-out to his nurse, Pam. She is the sweetest and so compassionate. She made sure I was fully prepared for surgery, and even afterward she contacted me directly and helped answer every question I had.

Dr. Canseco takes his time with his patients and does not rush them. He listens to you very carefully and goes over the studies MRIs, CT Scans and the results thoroughly with you. His assistant, Pam is also fantastic and is very prompt in responding to your inquiries.

Dr Canseco is a wonderful doctor. Very caring & gets right down to the problem. I am so grateful to him for performing my procedure. My pain is now healing pain. Wouldn't trade him for nothing very professional.

Dr. Canseco was great. I received exceptional care from Dr. Canseco who treated me. Their expertise and attention to detail were truly impressive. Additionally, the staff members were equally remarkable in their treatment of me. I felt well-attended to and cared for throughout my entire experience.

This is not a criticism of Dr Canseco. When I have seen him he has been excellent. I did not have the time this practice needed to get me on today. I waited 2 hours and left because I felt I was not going to be seen. I had an 11:20 appointment. About an hour in I was told that I was waiting because a room was not available which makes no sense unless they have 7 rooms and 6 doctors. After being put in a room I answered a few questions from a non doctor I was a told a doctor would be in shortly. After 30 minutes in the room I walked out. I went to the front desk which is not manned from 12:15 to 12:50, and told them I felt that they did want to see me. I was asked if I wanted to cancel my appointment. I guess I did. I will find a new ortho. This is not the first time I had to wait at this office.

He was compassionate, patient and understanding, and answered all of my questions and concerns in a easy to understand non technical manner. He also designed a physical therapy program for me to start at my earliest convenience. He even profusely apologized for keeping me waiting even though it wasn't that long. I use to live in NYC for almost thirty years and that would never ever happen in a million years. I would highly recommend him if you are experiencing any neck issues.

Dr. Canseco is a wonderful doctor. He is extremely knowledgeable, kind and professional. His examination of me was very thorough, and he explained the issues I was experiencing with my cervical spine in a manner that was easy for me to understand. He took the time to answer all my questions. During my second visit, he reviewed the results of my MRI in detail, and proposed a treatment plan. He again patiently answered all my questions and addressed all of my concerns in a manner that was easy for me to understand. I highly recommend Dr. Canseco to anyone experiencing any neck and/or back problems.

I am a retired Ph.D. college professor. I have 4 adult children: 2 of them earned Ph.D s; one is a physician and one is a lawyer. All of us had anticipated a joyful retirement for me until HUP physicians determined that I needed hip replacement surgery. Dr. Canseco competently asserted that I needed physical therapy, not surgery. There are not enough subjunctive words to describe the “what if’s” Dr. Canseco had not examined me. My family and I will be grateful to Dr. Canseco forever.
