Dr. Jose Legaspi Guevara, DO

Always very pleasant and caring! Been going to Dr. Guevara for about 5 years and would never change doctors!

This Dr needs to further his education! Gives wrong/dangerous medical advice, lacks knowledge in things that should be well known, lazy-doesn't want to help-wants to just "pass the buck" to another doctor, not quick to respond, doesn't show compassion, neglects patients. I could go on and on about the lack of care received.

In the past three years I have had Dr. Guevara, and found him to be personal, yet, does not seem to listen to what I have to say. I have had many chronic ailments, such as needing knee replacements, arthritis, skin cancer to periodic lung infections. All of which I have experienced over the past twenty or more years. I believe he must be getting GOLD STARS from the financial department at Kaiser, because of taking a less expensive route on all the above. One such example is mandating a simple yearly check for skin abnormalities versus a visit to the Dermatologist. My first skin cancer was missed by the regular Doctor, but identified by the specialist. A couple times a year, I get lung infections, with associated cough and sputum. Most of the previous doctors in the past have provided an antibiotic such as erythromycin, which usually take care o the symptoms within a couple of days. This doctor will give instructions of using an inhaler more often, and see how that works. No, never… worked, just suffered for two three weeks. He certainly mandates many blood tests through year, at $20 a pop for co-pay. I am not a doctor, but, I know what works for me through the years, and he doesn't seem to listen to his patient. I think he is simply playing it safe and staying with the most conservative, cost saving way he can with Kaiser. You ar better off with UCD or Sutter!

I've been seeing Dr. Guevara for over a year now. In that time, it just seems he isn't a good doctor for people with anxiety. My experience with him has been frustrating because I've had severe spine and back pain going on over two years now that has gotten progressively worse over time. I've been having nerve and muscular pain for almost eight. It finally took me after getting worse with physical therapy and after a series of tests to suggest I get tested for Fibromyalgia. I was diagnosed with it shortly after. I'm to the point where I'm in excruciating pain on a daily basis and unable to walk some days. I can't work or really function because of the pain. I have felt ignored and belittled because he has known from the outset I do get anxiety about medical issues because of past experiences. He feels that anxiety is more important than the extreme pain I deal with on a daily basis. I will be looking for another doctor because I simply can't deal with this type of attitude anymore. I… really do feel he is most likely a wonderful doctor for some so gave him an average rating to be fair because I feel my own experience could be in the minority here.

Dr J is a good, caring physician. HMO has his hands tied a bit, but he navigates the HMO system really well. He makes you feel like a human being, and not just a number. Good man.

Nobody answer the phone all time. Never return a phone call. Never tell me my test result. NEED SWITCH A DOCTOR!!!!!

He listened to my concerns and has proposed a good plan to determine what's going on with me. My symptoms are more on the serious side (neurological; arms and legs going numb, vision disturbances, possible seizures). He took me seriously when no other doctor has. My kids love him too! The ladies in the office are awesome! They get very busy, but I don't understand the previous negative review. If you go in there expecting to be treated like royalty, and thinking they'll roll a red carpet out for ya, I guess you'll be disappointed. The office treats everyone the same, which is good in my opinion.

Every time I have called this office, they have asked me to spell my name multiple times (my name is not difficult), they have put me on hold without telling me they are putting me on hold (just setting the phone down and I can still hear everything they are saying), and they have told me that there is no way I can get a same day sick visit, because they are just soooooo busy. Well, why, when I was looking for a doctor, did this doctor say he was accepting new patients if he's sooooo busy? If I knew I was going to end up at the ER anyway on a Monday, I wouldn't have spent the whole weekend sick and miserable, I'd have gone to the ER first thing. Also, if you need a referral, they'll give you one, but be warned: it will take 3-4 days for it to be issued, and you will have to come pick it up in person. It is not their policy to fax referrals to the specialist. They have no extended office hours (and will obviously not extend them for an additional same day sick visit), so you'll have… to pick it up between the hours of 9am and 5pm (when the majority of people have to work). Very inconvenient. I will be switching my primary doctor asap...to someone who is willing to see me when I most need it.

Would recommend to anyone. Compassionate, well educated, and a good listener. Has a true concern for his patients, and is not afraid to admit if he needs to refer to a specialist. I trust him with my life and my children without a doubt.
