Dr. Jose Andres Jovel, MD

I saw Dr Jovel only by phone (as he refuses in-person) thru Watsonville Medical Clinic. He treated me for about 6mo. He did not listen to/address my concerns and dismissed them as me being "manic". I was a bit frantic, as I was having very serious, miserable issues, and thus would get worked up when I would hear him saying things that were obvious that he didn't believe me. He pushed psych meds hard, despite my saying that I was having lots of side effects and have had very bad experiences. He refused to prescribe me a medication that did work very well as it is a (low-risk) narcotic, despite having been on it before with good results and offering to provide medical records showing I voluntarily tapered off and stopped the medication when no longer needed. He also dismissed a diagnosis made by an ER physician who actually saw me in-person several times and during the events I was having, and declined to look at the records from those ER visits. In fact, during our first call, at the… very beginning, I framed the issue by stating the ER visits and diagnosis and he immediately said that he did not think that was the issue - although he had no previous conversations with me and no records or test results, nothing of any kind, to suggest that this diagnosis he was dismissing was, in fact, incorrect. He had almost no information at all at that point except me stating that diagnosis. Some time later I requested my records and the notes I read were very negative about me and suggested that stereotypical stigma had prevailed over logic and especially empathy. I would seek treatment elsewhere.
