Dr. Josefina Trausch, MD

Have you ever explained something to someone and they give you the most absurd suggestions? That’s what seeing Josefina Q. Trausch was like. Almost comical but at the same time unfortunate that anyone would waste their time being seen by her. One, she was the only Dr running an hour behind schedule. I was not pressed for time so I thought maybe she was just thorough with her patients. Definitely not the case. Two, after explaining all my symptoms of visual blood in my urine, nausea, flank pain and abdominal pain, I’m thinking UTI? Kidney infection ? she tells me several times that I have no symptoms and that I should go back when I have symptoms. I’m thinking maybe there is a language barrier so I repeat my symptoms and then she says that I need to come back in 2 days If I want a urinalysis done. I explain to her that her medical assistant took a urine sample and she tells me she can’t use it because my menstrual cycle ended 8 days ago and I have to wait 10 days after the cycle… ends to have my urine tested. So if I wanted to, I could come back on Saturday. She also suggested going to the ER or an urgent care in La Jolla if I thought I needed further evaluation or tests. Is she joking? Then she decides to examine me and asks me where I have the pain in my lower abdomen and when I show her, she says “that’s just fat” and in my head I’m laughing because my body type is average. I don’t have a complex regarding my body fat but I kept thinking what if she said that to someone else who did. Obviously the pain I’m experiencing isn’t coming from the 2 pounds I gained over Thanksgiving. Her strange comments just made me feel like I was on the show impractical jokers or something. Then she asks where my pain was on my back so I touch my flank area and explain the area feels sore and tender. She said that’s just tissue or muscle soreness and that I can take ibuprofen. She was sweet enough to ask if I wanted an Rx for Ibuprofen though. Then she suggested that I could be experiencing ovulation pain and questioned if I thought my pain was just gasses. I had to really explain to her that I know my body, I know what’s normal for me, I know what my urine usually looks like. I know that 3 days of lower abdominal cramping and flank pain with other symptoms I explained, are not normal for me. I keep pressing for her to do some sort of test, a urine culture, at the very least, so she finally agrees to send it to a lab. She gets up to walk out and advises me that I can get dressed and she walks out. Not exactly sure why I was asked to undress from the waist down but I start to grab my clothing and she walks back in. Repeating stuff she already told me while I’m covering myself with a paper sheet for privacy. She finally walks out and I partially dress when she walks back in to tell me that I should take alleve every so many hours, etc, etc...at that time I just zoned her out and continued getting dressed while she stood at the door talking and repeating herself .... I’m currently toughing out my pain and discomfort but realize now that if it doesn’t resolve soon, I’ll have to go to the ER.

I had high cholesterol >300, chest pain, and an episode at home of crushing, squeezing chedt pain with profuse sweating. Dr Trausch addressed medical questions to my healthy husband about HIS cardiovascular health. She defended this by saying, “statistically your husband is more likely to have a heart attack than you”. I could NOT get her to focus on me and my health even though it way MY appointment. My husband is slender has total cholesterol of 140 with no issues and no family history of medical problems even though we eat the same foods in the same amounts. I SWITCHED DOCTORS AND IT SAVED MY LIFE.

Dr. Trausch and her nurse Vanessa are very caring professionals. I love Dr. Trausch because she genuinely takes care of me and my daughter, age 20 and is very concerned not just about our health but also our well-being. I would recommend her to anybody.

Dr. Trausch is an excellent physician who balances patient's diagnosis with patient's lifestyle. I was very impressed that she offered me treatment options and gave me time to implement lifestyle and dietary changes prior to prescribing medications. She has made excellent referrals upon my behalf and is prompt with follow up care and information. I would recommend her to my family and friends.

Dr Trausch could be a better doctor if she took the time to listen to her patients and be a bit kinder rather than judgemental
