Dr. Abdo and his PA Michelle are nothing short of amazing. They saved my life! The staff in the office are all the kindest and most professional women I've ever had the pleasure to meet. Dr Abdo and Michelle explain everything clearly and truly do everything they can to help you. After suffering a medical emergency in the middle of the night, I was lucky enough to have Dr Abdo be the surgeon on call. He saved my life! I will be forever thankful to him, Michelle and all of his staff. All of my aftercare needs have been met by them as well in his office. I would recommend his office for your needs. I can't say enough great things about all of them. They truly turned my life threatening experience into a miracle by saving my life and caring for me better than any doctors office ever has before. I have never felt more confident in a medical professional as I have with Dr. Abdo! My children still have a mother because he found something and fixed something that many other medical… professionals had missed! That is why he is nothing short of amazing!

Great Doctor! Listens, Attentive and Compassionate! Smart and Skilled too!

Had complications from a surgery he did during an emergency hospitalization a few years ago. Ended up back in the hospital and went back to him after discharge. Waited two hours, past appointment time, and in walks his PA who knew nothing of my situation. He didn’t even bother to see that his boss, Dr Abdo, was the one that had done surgery, not once but, twice! Dr Abdo obviously didn’t look (or maybe just doesn’t care) and his PA didn’t bother to get up to speed on the case. I went to another surgeon, have had the issue fixed and am now disputing the $900 bill I got for seeing Dr Abdo - never saw the whites of his eyes. Worst yet, his office didn’t bother to do any follow up after I left the appointment that day. By the sounds of conversations in his waiting room, I’m certainly not alone in this experience.

This is the second survey he has done on me. Both were done without major complications. He is the only surgeon that I would let operate on me. He diagnosed the issue and removed the problem

While in hospital due to sever pain, Dr. Abdo woke me at 4am stating I didn't have appendicitis and should go home and see a GYN. After another test they took my gall bladder out saying "good thing, it shredded!" Ya, good thing I didn't go home so that could burst on me! Then they couldn't bill ins right and they just sent me a bill for over $500 saying i have deductible that I already paid after surgery, which was over 1 1/2 yrs ago! Worst Worst Worst bed side manner and terrible office staff who can't seem to bill insurance properly!!! I had a choice to not use him and wish I could go back and have another Dr. Aside from those issues, surgery went fine.

Dr. Abdo is a kind soul. I would trust him with my family. He has many years of exceptional service and cares deeply for his patients. Tonight he help ease my suffering on a holiday weekend. I am beyond grateful to work with him at Banner Baywood surgery department. Tonight he saved a life. Then went the extra mile to help me. If your looking for a top notch surgeon consider him he provides services in Mesa and globe.

Dr Joseph Abdo is ok at best. He was assigned to me while in the Chandler Hospital. He came by a few times, very quiet and was not the best at relaying the information I needed to understand what was happening to my body. The other doctors that came to visit were much more willing to stay and talk with me, draw pictures and help me understand. In addition, he charged me for 2 hospital visits that he did not actually perform!! In fact, one of my doctors wondered why I was still in the hospital. It turns out I stayed an extra day because nobody could get a hold of Dr. Abdo for the last 2 days of my visit. On my final day, one of my doctors texted him multiple times and got fed up with waiting, and released me themselves. It is not normal for a doctor to be unavailible for his patients, and he should have been the one to discharge me. Dr. Abdo was supposed to be making all of the decisions but others had to step in because he was nowhere to be found. Apparently it's OK… to charge me for a hospital visit for 2 days because he sent his Assistant to see me. The Assistant was nice, but he had no power to change anything, only kept assuring me that I should be out soon, and the 30 second visit was hardly worth hundreds of dollars. Unfortunately there is not much I can do to fight back, since his PA visited me. What a great strategy to get around the system Dr. Abdo, you should be proud! I could not tell you if Dr Joseph Abdo is a good surgeon, but I can tell you he didn't treat me right. Dr Abdo is one of the reasons that insurance rates are so high, blindly charging for services not given, and I would not recommend him.

I think he had good patient doctor manners and explains well. He I very thorough in what he is doing I would go to him again and would recommend him. The staff is very courteous and professional also

After going to the ER for a minor rash that kept growing even while on antibiotics, I had been diagnosed with diverticulitis via CT scan. The diverticulitis had become so infected that a fistula had formed between my sigmoid colon and the urachal remnants under my belly button (which was the cause of the growing red spot on my stomach). Dr. Abdo was assigned as my surgeon as I was told that I needed to have the infection removed surgically (it was too late to treat any of the infection with drugs). Dr. Abdo was supportive and always calming during his visits in my 10 day stay in the hospital. He came and visited me every day before and after the surgery. As it turned out, the infection was fairly contained to the sigmoid colon and Dr. Abdo was able to perform the entire surgery laparoscopically even though I did have a colon resection (my sigmoid colon was removed). Usually a surgery of this magnitude would require a very long incision down the abdominal region from the lower chest to… pelvis area. However, Dr. Abdo was able to work a small miracle and I came out of the surgery with 6 laparoscopic sites and a small 5 or 6 inch incision along the belt line where he had to remove the infected colon. I have no doubts that Dr. Abdo could have taken the easier route and just cut me open to make the surgery easier. But knowing the recovery time would take longer this way, he opted to perform the surgery in a manner that would allow me to recover more quickly, even though it was much more difficult to perform the surgery laparoscopically. He saved my life and to this day I still think about all he did for me. I can never thank him enough for allowing me to walk out of that hospital and see my daughter and wife again.

The doctor was great. Staff was horrible. They probably get it from their rude office Manager. Too bad his staff doesn't reflect the compassion of the physician!
