Dr. Joseph Robert Cali, MD

I worked with Dr Cali back in the day, at Mercy Hospital in RVC NY. What a wonderful man! He also was my Dr/Surgeon. He was always a pleasure to work with. I’m so sorry to hear of his passing.

I worked for Dr. Cali at Mercy Medical Center for 4 years in the OR. He seemed to know what he was doing and I never heard a complaint from any of his patients. The nurses at Mercy suck, they are rude, lazy and will turn on you in a heartbeat, especially Stephanie Romero the former supervisor in CIP. That woman is a liar, a back stabber and was never at work. All she seemed concerned about was bringing her daughter Holly to play dates, birthday parties etc. Mercy needs to clean house and Jean Rodgers the head of the Nursing Office is misinformed and just as arrogant. I would definitely not admit myself as a patient and have to deal with these nasty nurses. The CNA's are just as bad

Ten years ago Dr. Cali performed laproscopic gall bladder surgery on my father, at Mercy Medical Center on Long Island. The story of that botched procedure, and the train wreck that was Dr.Cali's follow-up care and guidance to the nursing staff, is too long to go into here. I have recently had to revisit the narrative of that surgery, which resulted in my father's death several days after the surgery, from sepsis. The story still makes me sick to think about, but I have decided to post this here, as some warning, at least. I have no way of knowing with certainty how skillful the surgery itself was. But Dr. Cali was responsible for supervising and observing my father after this operation, and he was slipshod at best -- malfunctioning IV unit, complete neglect of vital signs that showed my father was suffering from infection, etc etc -- in his care. And his explanations after my father's death were evasive, contradictory, and finally incoherent.Take it for what it's worth -- I realize… that this contains few specifics, and that it's about something that happened ten years ago. But people don't change their character that much. If it is enough to make you think twice about this doctor and perhaps look elsewhere for care, then it is worth posting.And one other word of advice -- the nursing care at Mercy was ABYSMAL -- shocking, really. Maybe they have cleaned up their act in the past ten years. But, again, I would think very carefully before trusting this hospital with the care of a loved one.
