I just had a run-in with Dr. Caligaris at The Christ Hospital in Liberty Township labor & delivery - I went in for some bleeding & cramping during my pregnancy. I first went to ER; ER sent me up to labor & delivery. With some discrepancy in my due date, Dr. Caligaris came into my triage room for the first time meeting or speaking to him, & started verbally attacking me, accusing me of lying about my due date, & stating that I shouldn’t be there & that there’s nothing he can do for me. Every time I opened my mouth to speak & explain my pregnancy, he cut me off, followed by lots of eye rolling & attitude. After verbally attacking & arguing with me & basically making me feel like an idiot for coming to be checked at all (after I’ve already had two dangerous high-risk pregnancies, both with which I went into pre-term labor multiple times, & had preeclampsia & blood transfusions during my second pregnancy, where my daughter & I barely survived), he then, very annoyed, came close to me, put… a glove on & said, “since you claim to be bleeding I’ll check your cervix.” As a veteran with PTSD due to trauma involving men - after his horrid manner, I was extremely uncomfortable with him coming anywhere near me, let alone touching me. I said, crying, “I don’t want you to do it.” He said, “why is that?” I said, “I do not like the way that you’re talking to me, I have PTSD, & you’re making me extremely uncomfortable.” He responded, “fine, you can go home then!” & he walked out. I completely bursted into tears. My boyfriend got his full name so he could make a formal complaint. Several of the L&D nurses were very comforting & apologized over & over, saying that it’s not personal, & that he’s like that with *everyone.* They said he is old & grumpy & they have had numerous issues with his behavior with patients. It was the absolute worst OB experience I have ever had in my entire life. They warned me that he would be the L&D doctor on site until Monday, & gave me a direct number to a charge nurse in case my bleeding doesn’t stop. Dr. Caligaris is the most disrespectful, unprofessional, uncaring doctor I have EVER met in my life - & as a veteran, I’ve definitely dealt with some subpar care in the past, but nothing ever to this extent. It was horrid. & I would not recommend him to ANYONE. As one of the nurses said, he needs to retire. He has clearly lost his compassion & heart as a doctor, if he ever had any before. Awful, awful, awful..

I usually don't go for male OBGYNs. I am glad I came across Dr. Caligaris! He is very kind and he goes the extra mile to make sure you are taken care of. He delivered my son and thank god for him! It turned out after 40 hours of labor I needed a C-section and my son was wrapped up in my cord. He was so kind and he reassured me that me and my baby would be ok.

They do not come any finer or kinder!
