Dr. Joseph Matthew Hughes, MD

I've seen Dr. Hughes for pituitary/hormonal issues since the late 1980's. He's been quite thorough in his evaluations and always asks if I have questions about his diagnoses or suggested course of treatment. When I do, he provides thoughtful replies, with followup study when needed. He is, as others have noted, somewhat soft spoken, but not that he is difficult to understand. We have always gotten along well and I would definitely recommend him to others.

Suffice to say he is less than impressive. Dr. Jessica Rockwell is the one to go to for ending questions.

I was told that my thyroid levels were "normal" by several primary care doctors. Dr. Hughes was the first doctor to take account of all of my symptoms and family history to determine my thyroid issues. He is soft-spoken and professional. It can take a long time to get an appointment. I would and have strongly recommended him to friends and family.

Dr. Hughes is very closed-mouthed and won't tell you what is going on. He is a little tyrant - tells you what meds you WILL take and will not discuss other medications or changes to medications. He gives up easily and it takes 3 WEEKS to get anyone in his office to call you back with lab results. Not a good thing when you are dealing with steroids and hormones!!!
