I am a professional male in my seventies. I had two face lifts done before, roughly at ten year intervals, by a competent plastic surgeon in another city. The results were good and the procedures were a breeze. After relocating to North Carolina, I decided to find a N.C. surgeon for a third face lift. I had read an article in Sky magazine, which described Dr. Joseph Hunstad as one of the best plastic surgeons in America. I set up an appointment to see him. While waiting about 20 minutes in his office, I saw several medical books and magazines strewn about that were complimentary of Dr. Hunstad. I decided to have him perform my procedure. What a mistake! All of my many pre-surgery visits ran an hour or two past scheduled appointment times. I experienced broken needles taking blood samples, as well as lost blood samples, necessitating a do over. Two scheduled surgeries were cancelled by Dr. Hunstad. The third appointment for surgery was delayed from first thing in the morning to mid-day,… giving me lots of time to experience anxiety. On the day of surgery, as I was being escorted to the operating room, I noted how dirty and stained the carpet in the corridor was.It occurred to me that I should just get out of there, but I had made a sizable deposit that I was not sure that I could get back. So I went through the procedure. In my two previous face lifts, I awoke in the recovery room, feeling good - no effects from anesthesia. I was able to get up, walk around, and enjoy a meal. When I awoke from the Hunstad procedure, I literally thought that I would die.I asked the attending nurse to call a doctor, but she said that no doctor was available, and that I was not going to die. Fortunately, she was right.But I experienced nausea like nothing before, and it lasted for days. How did one of the "best plastic surgeons in America"perform? I would rate his performance F-. Here is a quick summary: 1- He pulled the sideburns all the way to the ears, leaving no space between the side burn and the ear.This is not a natural look for a male patient, but Hunstad had assured me that his work would look natural. 2 - He left the right ear lobe unattached to the skin of the face, so that the ear lobe dangles. This requires remedial surgery. 3 - The scar under the chin is prominent, which is not consistent with quality cosmetic surgery. 4 - Behind the ears, he pulled the skin to the ears, causing the beard to grow all the way to the ear.This condition has necessitated months of painful electrolysis to remove the hair follicles. 5 - He left a massive amount of scar tissue behind one of my ears. Dr. Hunstad offered to re-do that area at no cost. However, I was not about to let him touch me again. 6 - The procedure has left me with a feeling of having duct tape around my neck. This condition has persisted for over a year. When I complained to Dr. Hunstad about it, he told me to rub the area with a cloth! Because my face lift with Dr. Hunstad was my third such procedure, I had two prior procedures to compare it to. The first two procedures were highly satisfactory, without any of the complaints that I experienced with Dr. Hunstad. I certainly would not recommend him to anyone seeking similar services.

Staffing is horrible. There is no concern for scheduling - you will wait for hours!!no concern for patient privacy. They herd you in and herd you out!! Good docs - horrible staffing!!!

I am so very pleased with my scar revision surgery and having my cupid's bow restored. Dr. Hunstad is a very professional, talented and caring doctor. I highly recommend him!

Better than happy. Ecstatic is more like it. I can not say enough about my results and the entire staff. I have had a lot of experience with the medical profession and there are very few that work as smoothly as this one. They work like a well-oiled machine; the right hand always knows what the left is doing! Rare! Not only is everyone in sync but they are all compassionate, kind and warm. Dr. Hunstad is not only a professional in every sense of the word, he is also passionate about quality work and follows up like no other. He leaves no stone unturned. I needed to write this not only because I'm thrilled with my results but also because it is rare to have this type of staff! I'm one happy customer!

I was very pleased with the treatment I received from Dr. Hunstad and staff. Everyone was very friendly. Alexis the surgery coordinator was able to work me in two months earlier than my original surgery date. The whole staff has been very caring and attentive to my needs. Dr. Hunstad is very confident about his work and that made me feel very comfortable about having him as my surgeon. I,would highly recommend coming here for a procedure if you want great results and care.

I've been a patient of Dr. Hunstad's since 2011. I had previously had some body sculpting done with another doctor and was not pleased with the result. Dr. Hunstad listened to my concerns, shared specifics about how he could improve the outcome and made significant improvements. If you do your research, you'll find that you can't find a better surgeon.

I have only the highest compliments for Dr. Hunstad and his practice. Without a doubt, he exceeded my expectations with my body sculpting procedure. He is definitely a perfectionist and the results reflect that. I always felt special and appreciated when visiting his office.
