Dr. Joseph Michael Lane, MD

Dr. Lane is a very brilliant & caring physician. He & his Fellow both took the time to really listen, ask questions & understand my specific situation. They came up with a proactive plan & offered to contact the other surgeons involved with my care to share their thoughts/opinions from the consult. I appreciated their sincere concern & the time taken to figure out the best plan to try to prevent any issues as well as to achieve an optimal outcome as quickly as possible after a future procedure. The office staff & Fellow were extremely helpful, by phone & email, prior to my appt with setting up all necessary labs & tests required & answering questions I had. After waiting for 90 minutes, I recently saw Dr. Lane for a repeat visit. Please know that I do not necessarily hold it against doctors who are late because I understand the demands of the job, but this place seems more disorganized than most. As in the previous visit, after a few brief pleasantries, and the man is pleasant, he turned his attention to his nurse and later his fellow and discussed everything with them to the complete exclusion of me, the patient. I know that in metabolic bone diseases, labs are kind and symptoms kind of take a back seat, but acknowledging the patient might be good PR, if nothing else. Fortunately, I knew my lab results in advance, because I had them done locally, and so had a working knowledge of what was going on, but I assumed that the purpose of being in Dr. Lane's office was so he could improve upon my rather imperfect understanding of what is going on and perhaps come up with a working diagnosis, if not a reasonable explanation. I'm not sure… when that might occur, nor do I have any idea as to when I might expect that. Communication is not one of the skills demonstrated by anyone in this office. It is frustrating and somewhat off-putting, but as there are not a lot of people working in this particular field, it is not easy to simply pick up and start over elsewhere, so I persist. It is just odd. And off putting.

Doctor Lane was very helpful to me as i was concerned about this odd bone condition that was discovered on an x-ray of my arm/elbow after I had fallen.. Several Doctors were uncertain about giving me a firm diagnosis of these strange lines that appeared on my bones. After studying my records and running test of his own (MRI- blood) at HSS it was determined that I have Fibrous Dysplasia. This was crucial information since i was a candidate for a hip replacement. My hip surgeon switched to doing a partial hip (resurfacing) replacement @ HSS (Dr. Mark Figgie) because of the condition. I needed the other hip done 18 months later and all has been well since then.

Dr. Lane was my ortho doctor back in 1980. He made the decision to remove a difficult and dangerous cancerous tumor in my hip bone. Here I am 35 year later still fighting the good fight of life. His decision did ultimately save my life. My family and myself will all we grateful to Dr. Lane.

Seems to be a caring doctor but has the rudest and unprofessional office staff I have encountered in a long time. For this reason I would never feel comfortable using him as my doctor.

I was misdiagnosed and he recommended a very strong drug, thank God I had a second opinion. He is borderline rude, never disgusted a diagnose/prognosis. Received the information via mail, so impersonal. No discussion regarding the recommended treatment, just a disaster...So long, farewell!

Had spine wave surgery to keep back in line. I have not had any more fractures of the spine. However I feel i should had given the fracture chance to heal.Second opion should always be had. Dr. Lane is a very caring doctor and easy to talk to. I feel he listen and will give you the time,therefor the wait is worth the vist and time it takes to see him.
