Dr. Joseph Thomas Largi, MD

I’ve been suffering from debilitating back and leg pain for almost two years now. My condition affects my sciatic nerve, so I have had 2 MRIs (6 months apart), an x-ray, an EMG, two blood tests for muscle enzymes, as well as a year of physical therapy and acupuncture treatment. After two years of pain and a few misdiagnoses, my second MRI showed that my severe leg spasms were causing my other symptoms. I brought the report for every test I had done as well as both MRI discs. Dr. Largi refused to look at my medical records. I have had to resign from my job due to this exact medical issue, and have been unable to work because I cannot sit for longer than 20 minutes at a time. During our very short appointment, Dr. Largi forgot that I was out of work due to the medical condition he was supposed to treat. He said “we can't have you tired when you’re working”, referencing when i told him that the drug, cyclobenzaprine, prescribed by my neurologist, made me feel sluggish. I had… to remind him that I was unable to work due to this condition, not due to this medication's side effects. Dr. Largi assumed that I was looking for painkillers or similar medications when I had made it clear I was only looking for a pain management plan. Due to my experiences being hospitalized for severe pain in the last year, I understand that doctors are very wary of giving patients pain medication. I also didn’t ask for any medication. In an attempt to see if Dr. Largi was screening/profiling me for drug abuse or genuinely didn’t see me as a human in need of medical help, I asked about any treatments or referrals. He told me to go to physical therapy for 2 months and come back to him. I explained that I was barely able to sit or stand long enough on the train to see him at his office in Greenpoint. He told me that if I made it to his office, I should be just fine. He didn’t bother to tell me that he was transferring to an office in midtown within the week. Dr. Largi isn’t just incompetent. He is condescending to his patients. He is lazy, inconsiderate and can do more harm to his patients than good.
