Dr. Joseph C Mccarthy, MD

Dr. MacCarthy was very short with me whenever I asked a questioned. Bedside manner awful. Had my replacement in 2009 and have hip pain ever since. Just found out I have a non-union fracture in my greater trochanter for years.

Excellent experience

Dr McCarthy has been my doctor for years. His caring and commitment saved me from a life of being totally disabled. My left side was crushed in an automobile accident. Dr McCarthy took the challenge to piece my left arm, pelvis, and femur back together. His ultimate goal was to save my natural hip joint which was dashed as my local over zealous Physical Therapist had me doing exercises that were destructive forcing the need to replace the hip joint. Ultimately, when I needed to have the hip joint replace again and the technology was available he opted to provide me with an artificial pelvis which has been nothing short of a miracle.

He refused to do surgery on me unless I lost weight. I was only about 40 pounds overweight. He wanted me to lose 30 pounds. I could barely walk but he insisted I would gain more weight after the surgery. I ended up gaining way more weight because I couldn't walk. I ended up finding an excellent doctor who did the surgery and it went perfectly. Dr. McCarthy ruined my life. I would never have gained all that weight had he done the surgery. But thank God he didn't because from the looks of it he's a hack. I would have ended up crippled and in a wheelchair had I not found another doctor.

Dr McCarthy did miraculous work on my hips. He is a professional, and does love a challenge, if he didn't he wouldn't have taken my case on! I was an extreme mess! He called me, "A work in progress." He brought me through three major surgeries without any problems, never got any infections etc. As I mentioned at the start, he literally performed miracles on me with his mind and his hands. For the first time in my forty+ years of life, I could walk, sleep and live without the constant pain I had experienced through out my life! I love this man for helping me when I couldn't imagine I could be helped. As a side note, I found his then NP, Joann, to be very professional as well, giving me assurance not to worry, "Dr McCarthy loves a challenge!" And I love this highly intelligent, and immensely talented man!!! Thank you Dr Joseph Clement McCarthy, for changing my life for the better!

Outstanding surgeon! He came highly recommended and did not disappoint.

Had a hip replacement when he was at the Baptist Hospital. After one month, I was having pain and hip clicked when I walked. Went back again, and again was xrayed and told everything looked fine. I went to another surgeon and he put me in the hospital 2 weeks later for emergency surgery. After surgery, he told he barely had to cut me when he cut into my skin--the entire prosthetic McCarthy inserted was in pieces. McCarthy is a hack and should not even be in practice. Patient beware!

Excellent diagnosis explanation, espxcellent surgical treatment.

Went to Dr. McCarthy for a possible labral tear diagnosed by an OS who recommended him. As many have said, he's well published in the field of labrums and has quite the resume. After we waited for 2 hours (including seeing him in his suit eating lunch in the cafeteria schmoozing with people while we were waiting,) he finally decided to grace us with his presence. He was short and annoyed by my questions. He told me I had hip dysplasia and that I would need to guard my dysplasia for the rest of my life -- even after surgery. After leaving his office I was scheduled for surgery with him (against my better judgement) and got paperwork for surgery on the wrong hip. I cried at his lack of attention and care for me as a patient. I called the office and asked what his official notation said from my visit and it was one sentence long (and also indicated injury on the wrong hip). During this time, I did my research around hip dysplasia and started thinking that this was not the right… surgeon for me. I found myself at Boston Children's Hospital with one of the top hip dysplasia experts in the world: Dr Michael Millis. Dr. Millis was appalled that was I was told I had dysplasia so quickly by someone who typically doesn't look past the labrum. Dr. Millis measured my hip sockets front of me to show me that I did not have dysplasia. He spent lots of time with me figuring out what the best treatment was, and I received it there. If you want to feel small and uncared for, I recommend Dr. McCarthy. If you want to feel empowered, heard, and understood, I recommend literally anyone else.
