Dr. Joseph Paul Narins, MD, MD

Narins was so micro-focused on appendicitis that I did NOT have that he ignored everything else. His arrogance & dismissive behavior were obvious even while I was going septic. I developed sepsis after a D&C performed by a DO in Lititz / Lancaster, yet Narins showed little concern for my gynecological condition. His misdiagnosis & delay in care allowed my condition to worsen to full sepsis. WHO GETS WORSE while being treated? I did, under Narins. He appeared to show no empathy for patients, which is alarming in a physician. Once I stabilized from sepsis, I urgently requested a complete hysterectomy that I medically needed. Narins refused to even look at me & muttered something dismissive about the surgery. There was zero empathy or concern. I felt completely ignored. A transvaginal ultrasound would have been appropriate to assess for complications, yet Narins never ordered one to rule out abscess. This is basic evaluation. At the time I could barely breathe, had tachycardia, & a 102… fever. UPMC had already ignored years of symptoms including severe bleeding & anemia. That delay allowed fibroids to grow to 19 × 15 × 3.5 cm, causing hydronephrosis, fecal incontinence, urinary incontinence, & severe pain. I ultimately had to go to Mercy for a life-saving complete hysterectomy (uterus, ovaries, & fallopian tubes removed). I am currently recovering from major surgery with a vertical incision from pelvic bone to umbilicus. I will be reporting Narins to the PA Medical Board & the Joint Commission. The GYNECOLOGICAL HEALTH TREATMENT ACT OF 2025 exists bec lawmakers recognize that women with uterine conditions frequently experience delays in diagnosis & treatment. It highlights systemic problems many patients face: • years of untreated heavy bleeding or pelvic pain • symptoms minimized or dismissed • delayed imaging or specialist referral • fibroids growing extremely large before treatment My experience reflects exactly the type of delay this legislation addresses. Patients who repeatedly report serious symptoms deserve proper evaluation, not aggressive dismissal; as I experienced with Narins.
