Dr. Joseph Charles Perkinson III, MD

I was very pleased with Dr Perkinson my first few visits. But, my last 2 visits I was very disappointed. I went due to air in my bladder, sign of a fistula, but he actually said he didn’t believe I had air in my bladder. Yet, he found I had a UTI/e-coli. My Blood work showed my thyroid had gone from hypo to hyper, and he asked if I was abusing my medication. I replied NO! I had started taking supplements which help autoimmune disorders. Apparently the supplements did work, but I stopped taking them. I asked him twice for a referral to a urologist regarding my bladder which he never gave me. I found one on my own, and after several test my urologist determined I did had a fistula, which was due to diverticulitis repeatedly and I required surgery. I had to have part of my colon removed. I was told my colon was matted to my bladder and I had to have a catheter for a month following surgery so my bladder could heal. I thought about contacting Dr Perkinson to let him know I did… have a fistula, and what I went through. But, I feel he should have followed up, not me. My conclusion, I feel Dr Perkinson is a good doctor for routine issues only. But, I no longer trust him as my doctor.

After my husband died I moved and made an appointment with him to refill my medications. He was very different than any doctor I had been to before and my last doctor I had I spent over 15 years seeing her because I knew that she knew me and knew what I would need. He actually takes the time to share something of his life. I know more about him in only a little over 2 years than I know about the doctor I went to for over 15 years. I just hope that doesn’t change as his practice grows. Very few doctors take the time out of their life anymore.

didn't even see him. He called me before my appointment and because he looked at history and saw I was on controlled medication he wouldn't prescribe any. I did move here a few months ago. Although I have medical problems that cause me to be on them. He basically called me a drug seeker. I hung up and cancelled my appointment. No one should be discriminated against because of the medication they take. Thanks for making me feel even worse. He obviously cares nothing about patients. Let's not bother to listen and find a solution before judging someone.

I don't know where Dr. Perkinson went from VMC, but I wish I did! We miss him! Dr. Perkinson is the best doctor my family ever had. He was patient, professional and kind. 'House' as we liked to refer to him - never rushed us and could make a teenage girl feel better - and take from a mom that takes skill!! Best of all he was always accurate in his diagnosis.
