Dr. Joseph Swiggum, MD

Dr. Swiggum is a great guy, listens well keeping in mind your problems and making the effort to address them.

I immediately felt comfortable with Dr. Swiggum. He gave very thorough explanations of my test results and went over the images, making certain that I understood exactly what we were likely dealing with. His approach was very collaborative and he gave me the pros and cons of various next steps. This helped me decide which was the best course for the next phase of my diagnosis and treatment. He was personable and made me feel at ease, even in less than ideal health circumstances. I felt confident in his medical knowledge and recommendations.

Dr Swiggum was GREAT!! Highly recommend!!

My sister, Gail, who was a patient of Dr Swiggum, died in Sept 2021 from the impacts of Scleroderma. She was so impressed with him and his care during routine office visits. But when she became seriously Ill and truly needed him, he was totally useless. Couldnt even find 5 minutes to see her as her condition worsened. In fact cancelled at least two appointments we were able to get his scheduling team to make. On her deathbed in the hospital he was on rounds & finally forced to see her. He was cold, lacking any empathy, seemingly indifferent to her prognosis, unhelpful and left as quickly as possible. She was devastated to be treated that way by a member of her care team she trusted so fully. So, all that glitters isnt gold

My sister saw Dr. Swiggum for 3 years for treatment of Scleroderma related lung disease. She had total confidence in him and as long as all he had to do was push prescriptions, his care was adequate. When her disease took a turn for the worse, he was too busy to see her, cancelled appts and did not respond to urgent messages requesting an appt. When she ultimately ended up in the hospital, he was forced to see her as the attending ICU physician. She told me he acted like he couldn't get out of her room fast enough. Of all her treating physicians, he was the only one too "busy" or apathetic to provide updates regarding her condition. Ultimately she died from respiratory failure. I would never recommend this doctor to anyone who might ever need critical care.

From my first appointment with Dr. Swiggum and throughout the testing and diagnosis of my condition, Dr. Swiggum was very attentive to my concerns, questions, and took extra time to explain the process and various possibilities until I understood. I felt at very ease with him, and I could tell he was there for me and was not in a rush to get to the next patient. His staff was equally professional and helpful.

Dr. Swiggum is an excellent pulminologist and has a fantastic bedside manner. He explains things to each patient in a way that you can understand. Both my husband and I go to Dr. Swiggum and would highly recommend him.

I was impressed with Dr Swiggum during my in office visit, but after having numerous tests done, I had to call the office to get the results. The final test done by a respiratory therapist was done 13 days ago and still no final report given to me. The therapist transmitted the results of his test the same day. Numerous messages left for Dr Swiggum's assistant have not been returned. I don't know who has dropped the ball on this but someone has and I doubt I will recommend his office to anyone else as a result. That is really too bad as I liked the dr during the office visit and was telling friends I was impressed with his thoroughness.
