Dr. Joshua Nathan

I never knew which Dr was going to show up. Sometimes, he was on time, attentive, and professional. Other times, he was running late, in a hurry, and not very attuned. Made mistakes and got angry when they were pointed out. Doesn’t return phone calls and gets irritated easily. I had to find a new doctor.

I was a patient of Dr. Nathan's for several months but discontinued my care with him because I just could not form any connection with him. He seems aloof and preoccupied with other matters in his life. I am not looking to be friends with my therapist or doctors but it would be nice of there was some sort of humanitarian aspect to a treatment provider and there was absolutely none detected during my appointments.

I have seen Dr. Nathan since January of this year. I have not felt any connection with him. He seems to be disinterested in seeing people like me (depression) and is frequently distracted by other obligations he has going on.

I am a nurse and have been a patient of Dr. Nathan's for several months --- but no longer. I noticed that he was billing me well above what was commensurate with other providers. After doing research, I learned that he, himself, has stocks in the company that he works for (LifeStance). Under the American Medical Association (AMA) Code of Medical Ethics, a physician must never place their financial interests above the welfare of their patients. This has been occurring and his actions will be reported.

I have been a patient of Dr. Nathan's for the last five months. I have started to question some of the decisions he has been making including how he bills me. When digging deeper into his billing procedures, it appears he is billing the max for everything. I then learned that he has stock in the company that he is working for...I am certain that a physician having financial investments in the company that employs him is not only unethical but downright corrupt. I will be canceling my care with him immediately.

I believe Dr. Nathan means well. However, he has some of the worst bedside manner(s) I have ever witnessed. I am a licensed clinical mental health care provider who became a patient of Dr Nathan's for a short period of time in 2024. Dr. Nathan appears to display symptoms of autism. He rarely makes eye contact, repeats "ok" about a thousand times per ten minutes. His frequent repetition of the word "ok" underneath his breath appears to be a self-soothing mechanism of his to get him through his session. He will talk over you (the patient) throughout the sessions. He even talked to me about his upbringing and how insecure he feels about his short stature -- all things I probably don't need to know. In summary, I don't believe Dr. Nathan intentionally tries to be rude as some of the other reviewers have suggested. He just extremely socially awkward and does not belong in this profession.

Dr. Nathan was my psychiatrist for seven years, and my therapist for three of those years. When we had to transition away from therapy together he was very thoughtful about which therapist to place me with, and stepped down our own appointments gradually. He never stopped seeing me less than once a month even after we had terminated therapy. He saw me through two hospitalizations during which he worked hands on with the hospital teams, and my family, to ensure I had the best care. He also provided legal assistance during two medical leaves from my job, and was very helpful in communicating with my employer when illnesses prevented me from working. Whenever I needed help in a crisis, he was relatively quick to respond via phone or email depending on the nature of the crisis. But, Dr. Nathan is a psychiatrist. They’re very clinical people who sometimes seem emotionally detached. He is not though; his actions and sense of responsibility for his patients make that clear. Remember!… Psychiatrists aren’t therapists, and they act very differently. Part of the emotional detachment is so that YOU don’t get attached; a psychiatrist is a physician, not someone you’re going to confide in and build a personal relationship with. Dr. Nathan worked as a therapist, so a nice thing about him is that he can put that hat on when absolutely needed. The most important thing to know when working with him is that you have to be honest about everything or your treatment won’t be helpful. It’s also a good idea to take a list of things you wish to discuss to each visit, and to do independent research about your condition/s. The more you know about your illness, the more fruitful your conversations with Dr. Nathan will be. He can seem condescending at times, but this is usually due to his own stress (mental health professionals are human too!), or, and more importantly, because he feels you’re not working towards your recovery. He, understandably, gets frustrated if you know your goals, decided on steps, and keep delaying action. At first he’s patient with this, then encouraging, then gets frustrated but reserved, and ultimately leaves it in your hands, as it should be, to decide to take action or not. He doesn’t respond to attention-seeking behavior, which is also good although can feel hurtful if you deal with attachment issues. If you ever feel he’s condescending to you, tell him and work through that together. Dr. Nathan always appreciates patients who advocate for themselves. The negative reviews here seem to me to be more about dissatisfaction with diagnosis, and pride, which can be difficult with mental health. I get it. It sucks when psychiatrists tell you things you don’t want to hear, but you have to at least consider their perspective, and give it a few visits to really determine if someone is a good fit. And, I really do recommend giving Dr. Nathan a chance before jumping to negative conclusions. If I didn’t live so far from his new office, he would still be my doctor. The doctor I am transitioning to was found for me by Dr. Nathan; he wasn’t accepting new patients, but Dr. Nathan really felt this doctor is a good fit for me and talked him into squeezing me in. They’re still communicating about my case as I transition even though Nathan is no longer responsible for me. I appreciate him very much.

Absolutely fantastic psychiatrist. Genuine and caring, takes time to get to know you as an individual.

Criticized former providers and belittled other healthcare providers like primary care physicians in their managment of behavioral and mood disorders. Disagreed with prior diagnosis yet still prescribed medications that treated same diagnosis he denied I had. Very narrow minded and brought preconceived ideas into interview not allowing him to best take care of the patient...you! If you have a choice request someone else

Extemely condescending and judgemental. Uses soft tone voice to appear empathetic yet I felt no compassion. Talks down to you like you are uneducated. Don't waste your time find a different provider. Someone who actually cares
