Dr. Joshua Michael Purow, MD

In 2012, I had a major coronary blockage - STEMI heart attack. In the middle of the night I was rushed by ambulance to Holy Cross Hospital. The ER doctor called in the Cath Team that was on call including Dr. Purow. At 4am in the morning I was having a cardiac catheterization which included a stent placement. Dr. Purow thoroughly explained everything as it was happening. He saved my life. On two other occasions, I was having chest discomfort. On both occasions, Dr. Purow performed the cardiac catheterizations. The last time was this past week. To say that Dr. Purow is understanding, thorough, shows excellent bedside manner and truly shows how much he cares about his patients would be the greatest understatement. If you have Dr. Purow as your cardiologist during an emergency or for ongoing care, consider yourself the luckiest living person alive. Also consider that you may be alive still because of his care.

If I could leave zero stars, I would. I do not recommend this provider if you are a woman. The office visit was uncomfortable as the stethoscope was used inappropriately. Aside from a few tests that only showed rhythms in the moment, despite my telling him the tachycardia was random, he dismissed me saying I'm just a woman and these symptoms are likely more exaggerated as a result. My heart rate spontaneously spikes to 210 average and takes over an hour to slow back down to 90! This is not normal for a young woman and certainly not a result of not being a man. If you have a heart issue, are young, and a woman, this is not the doctor that ill take your health seriously.

Dr. Purow is a well rounded caring physician with an excellent beside manner, fabulous knowledge base and attentive nature. He thoroughly analyzes each patient situation determining what options would be optimal for each patient that he sees. He is provides his patients with a comfort zone that is so important to create.

I am a CHF patient and ended up with pneumonia. I was admitted at Holy Cross CCU unit for two weeks. My Doctor was Dr Purow. He made his rounds mid morning, he was prompt and very courteous. Dr Purow was articulate in his answers and took time to explain what ailed me. Several days later when I was anxious to leave he took more time and elaborately pinpointed why I could not leave (due to the stress on my heart) until he gives me the nod. I was satisfied and reassured by his answers and now after several weeks of recuperation at home I feel much better and will schedule an appointment in Dr Purow' office for a follow up in two weeks.

The Dr. is fine but the office staff is very poor. I have had physically go to the office following major surgery and fight to get results from a blood test that should have been provided in 24 hours. The first time I had the test it took 4 days and a very intense argument with the office staff. The second time I continue to wait for a return call now 3 days later and have decided to cahnge cardiologist. I have left 3-4 voice mails and no phone call was returned Having open heart surgery is bad enough I don't think one should have to fight staff in order to get information needed. The Dr. is fine but obviously the practice is to large to truely provide quality service.
