Dr. Joshua David Somerset, MD

I have familial hypertriglyceridemia which causes me to have high triglycerides. This has also caused me to develop pancreatitis. And I have had to deal with several medical professionals automatically assuming that I am an alcoholic or a drug addict and did this to myself. But I am not nor have I ever been. I tried to be hopeful, but as soon as he walked into the room I could tell that the appointment wasn't going to go well. He was very stoic and straight to the point. He wasn't really listening and he kept treating my appointment more like an interrogation. I felt like I had done something wrong the whole time I was in there. He made several insinuations that I wasn't being honest about not drinking and taking drugs because I still had a pancreatic attack with low triglycerides. I even cut me off in the middle of our conversation and told me that he was going to cut through the bull crap and be very blunt with me. And informed me that top three reasons that people get pancreatitis… is alcohol abuse, drug abuse, and high triglycerides. And if my triglycerides were under control then there must have been some other reason that I was still having attacks. He accused me of not taking my medications and potentially taking something else. Now mind you I had the flu, so the very apparent reason which appeal would have read my file showed that that was the probable cause of my attack. But either way I still had pancreatitis and still needed his help, but he told me there was nothing he could or would do for me at this time.

Dr Somerset listened to all of my questions and answered in terms I could relate to! That is so important! Everyone was friendly and professional. Also, there were no delays. I am glad that my GP referred me to the Digestive Disease Center and Dr Somerset!

He is very friendly; explains everything to me; takes enough time with me.

Self absorbed and his bedside manner is inexcusable. When I asked him a question regarding a procedure he was so rude that I was actually speechless for a little while. Wouldn't really recommend him unless you like to be looked down upon.
