Joy Allison Derwenskus, DO

REALLY appreciate Dr. Derwenskus! She was very thorough in her exam and her explanations of what she saw and what she thought would work best to try first. She didn't seem rushed in a hurry to get to the next person. I appreciate her being patient and taking her time. She was also very nice to her med student. Treated him like a colleague instead of an inconvenience.

Dr. Dewenskus is very concerned and asked about my current condition, I explained that I had an infection that I was treating with an antibiotic. Dr. Dewenskus explained that I couldn't have scheduled infusion (ocrevus) due to my infection, had she not inquired I might have had a bad experience. I appreciate her professionalism.

Excellent doctor!

I was referred to this doctor by another VUMC doctor who is excellent. In my first appointment, she made sure to let me know that my referring physician was a large part of the reason that she saw me because the had “months long” wait. She also dismissed my concerns about my course of treatment and instead of explaining her plan throughly suggested i just take a Xanax to get through the hour long MRI. After the appointment she ordered some follow up testing and when one came back took almost a week to respond. She would have her nurses to read messages and just leave it on read during the portal despite the 48 hour policy that the hospital sets for response. When she finally responded it was trite, insincere, and had no follow up instructions/next steps. Overall, she left me feeling like she didn’t care and was not concerned with my medical care. I would not recommend anyone see her.

My Neurologist whom I've had since being diagnosed with MS is in Summit Medical Center. Before I began my 2nd treatment of Ocrevus my Dr. sent me to Dr. Derwenskus so that I wouldn't have to drive to Hermitage. I love my Neurologist in Hermitage. He is one of the best. Dr. Derwenskus is right up there with him.From day I felt very comfortable. Her bedside manner is great. I really hate to see her leave.I wish her the best!!!!

I didn’t like her opinion on the patient about his MS

Let me start by saying when I had my last appointment with Dr. Derwenskus (didn't know at the time that would be my last appointment) she told me she was leaving Northwestern and moving to another state. I literally teared up and cried. She is awesome and made me feel so comfortable with my MS. She took great care of me. She set the bar for me and now every doctor I've seen, they just don't measure up. If I could afford to fly to her for my routine appointments, I would.

Very well trained and pleasant. Taught me much about my problem.
