Summary
Dr. Joyce Soprano received her medical degree from Harvard Medical School. She completed her Pediatric residency, as well as fellowships in both Pediatric Emergency Medicine and Primary Care Sports Medicine at Children´s Hospital Boston. She joined the faculty of the University of Utah in 2000 and is currently Associate Professor of Pediatrics in the Division of Pediatric Emergency Medicine.
Dr. Soprano’s clinical work is focused in the Emergency Department (ED) at Primary Children’s Medical Center (PCMC). Her clinical interests include sports-related injuries and concussion and she is currently involved in research on the effects of recent legislation on emergency department utilization for sports-related head injuries. In addition she has been instrumental in instituting an ED clinical protocol for the recognition and evaluation of pediatric stroke. She is currently investigation the impact of that protocol on the emergent evaluation of pediatric stroke in the emergency …department.
Dr. Soprano has served as the Associate Program Director for the fellowship in Pediatric Emergency Medicine for the last 5 years. In that capacity she has focused on fellow education and curriculum development, including methods for subspecialty teaching in the clinical setting.
Dr. Soprano has actively participated in hospital-wide clinical programs. She developed and staffed a Pediatric Sports and Dance Medicine Clinic at PCMC for 5 years. She was the Medical Director for Pediatric Advanced Life Support for the hospital for 2 years. She currently serves on the ED Communications Committee as well as the PCMC Continuing Education Committee.
