Dr. Juan Bernardo Kaplan, MD

My mother had a nephrostomy with him. My mothers condition never improved. At one point he said that my mother needed a surgery on her kidney... that it was not functioning properly and also that it was possible that he will have to removed it. He did a huge surgery (a cut from the belly all the way to the mid-back). When he came out from surgery he said "luckily, I was able to save your mother's kidney." My mother never improved her symptoms... and when we went to see him he wanted to begin his treatment back to point 1, with another nephrostomy which is very... very difficult thing (it's an opening between the kidney and the skin. A nephrostomy tube is a thin plastic tube that is passed from the back, through the skin and then through the kidney, to the point where the urine collects). I complained to him by saying "how can we go back to point 1 on this treatment? My mother has suffered so much with it" he replied by saying " I understand your frustation... I wil send you to my… professor to UCLA. This is a difficult case and I will send you to him." So we went to this doctor at UCLA. He took care of my mother and he said that what my mother had could be taken care without a surgery. He did a procedure... I think something with laser. My mother was out the same day and since then she has not had any problem. He also said that my moms kidneys were in good conditions. My conclusion: my mother never needed the surgery to "save" her kidneys... as he described it. My mother could have lost one of her kidneys and he will have said that it was not working anymore. My mother could have also died with that huge cut that he did (a cut to half of her waist) Thanks God my mother was able to survive the work that he performed on her!

My home hospital is Whittier,Dr. Kaplan is the only Urologist on staff there. When you ask him questions he doesn't want to here.He refuses treatment to you and makes you transfers you to Anaheim. His ethics are horrible.I 'am changing Medical groups because of this Dr. Do your research before making him your Dr.

Dr. Kaplan gave a poor diagnosis and did not evaluate other than looking. No questions were asked of the patient, no urine sample was collected. Basically he was very defensive when asked questions about care.

I have never been treated so unprofessionally by a doctor in my life. I gave a small criticism that his office does not accept credit cards and this is a big inconvienience to customers. I said this respectfully to him thinking he would care what his customers thought. He sneered back at me while walking away from me "Well, maybe you are in the wrong office then!" I took his advice, even though it cost me money, I will never see this rude, insensitive grouchy-old a$$ again.Sorry doc, that your patients don't walk around with $400 in their pockets for questionable co-pays.The receptionist apologized repeatedly for the doctor, but he saw me there and never apologized. He just looked at me and walked away. By the way, why wouldn't a doctors office take credit cards? The only reason I can think of is he lost his credit card priveledges because of fraud or abuse.
