My daughter had been experiencing symptoms for several days, and decided to make an appointment to get tested for covid. Knowing she has asthma, she was proactive in requesting a test. She also wanted to ensure she wasn't going to possibly spread the potential infection to the rest of her family in the household. Despite her explanation of her exposure, symptoms and concerns for her underlying health conditions, Dr. Juan Perez Gomez refused to refer her for covid testing, and told her to go home and monitor her symptoms. He further instructed her to go to the emergency room if things worsened. Over a week later, her symptoms remained mild but consistent, so she decided to go get tested in Tucson. Her results came back positive. Due to the doctor's reluctance to test her when she requested it, my entire family has now been exposed and at risk for being infected. This type of negligence and poor handling of a legitimately concerned patient with underlying health conditions is completely… unacceptable. Dr. Gomez put my daughter's and my entire family's lives at risk. Not only did he refuse her testing, she also asked him to please refill her prescription for her preventative and rescue asthma inhalers as a precaution. When she arrived to pick up her medication, he had prescribed her claritin and robitussin. She had to call the pharmacy, wait for the doctor to correct the script, and go back the following day to pick up her medication. All the while, she was already having asthmatic symptoms. We cannot allow this type of negligence to be permitted by our health professionals in whom we put all our trust.
