Dr. Kate Julie Baicy, MD

Dr. Baicy delivered by daughter in 2015 at NYU. My issue is not with labor or delivery of my baby. It was my postpartum care. I was severely anemic after the birth and she gave me a blood transfusion. I complained of not feeling well and bleeding before being discharged and she gave me an ultrasound. She then told me "if you pass something the size of an orange call us". I was shocked by the comment because I didn't know that could happen. I asked the nurse before being discharged and she confirmed that sometimes it does so I thought it was something that they were just warning me of. I felt bad for the next month and couldn't product enough milk but I didn't know differently because it was my first baby. Then I hemorrhaged and ended up back in the hospital. I found out that it happened due to a retained placenta. So in hind sight her comment about the orange seems as though she had seen something on the ultrasound and didn't tell me. I understand that mistakes happen and doctors no… exception to that. But in my case with needing a blood transfusion, complaining of not feeling well/blood loss and having an ultrasound prior to discharge I believe it was negligence on her part. After having the D &C to remove the retained placenta the doctor that preformed it told me it was a "significant piece of tissue" which to me means it should not have been missed on the ultrasound or when looking over the placenta to make sure it was all removed. I have filed a complaint with the state medical board. But I decided leaving public reviews was the best way for women to make informed decisions about their care.

While I was impressed with all of the doctors at NYU Langone, I was particularly happy that Dr. Baicy was the doctor on call the day I delivered my baby. She has great bedside manner and made me feel comfortable asking questions throughout my pregnancy. She thoroughly answered my questions and ensured that I understood the information. During my birth, she was upbeat and encouraging and supported my decision to give birth without an epidural. I will recommend her to my friends and family.
