Dr. Kara Jill Goldman, MD

It has taken me years to talk about what I experienced as Dr. Goldman's patient. On two occasions Dr. Goldman performed an internal exam without my consent. On the first occasion in 2016 when I was 19 years old, I had my very first appointment with a gynecologist, Dr. Goldman, to receive the birth control pill. Dr. Goldman performed an internal exam without notifying me or asking consent and failed to stop performing the exam even after I cried out in pain and yelled at her to stop. I was shaken by the incident but was unaware of my patient rights and what was normal for a gynecologist. On the second occasion in 2017, I had gone in for only a manual exam but was told by her and a nurse that I had to have a pap smear. I told them that I would not have a pap smear as this was my first "official" exam and didn't feel ready. I told them no repeatedly but they insisted that I had no other choice but to submit to it. I consented only under duress as I felt intimidated and that I had no… other choice. The nurse said she would hold my hand but took both my hands in hers, crossed them over my chest, and restrained me on the table for the duration of the exam. The doctor was unnecessarily rough and ignored my crying and obvious distress throughout the exam. I have been diagnosed with PTSD following the incident and have truly become aware of how appalling Dr. Goldman's conduct was as I've become more familiar with what to expect from a doctor. This doctor should not be allowed to treat patients, especially young women unfamiliar with what is normal or acceptable for a gynecologist to do. No one should ever be forced to undergo an exam against their will and no one should ever be restrained during an exam. I have filed a formal complaint against this doctor and encourage any other women who had a similar experience to do so as well.

This MD has terrible bedside manner. I saw her two years ago when I was diagnosed with a significant issue and she was very condescending and lacked empathy. I recently returned to see her when another MD in the group was not available and had a similar experience. She did not bother reading my chart before coming in to see me, treated me like an idiot and was totally dismissive of a lost pregnancy. Less than 5 mins later, she forgot about the pregnancy loss and needed to be reminded why I was on a particular medication. I will never voluntarily see this OB again and hope she will have no involvement in my future care.

I saw Kara Goldman in 2013 for my first pregnancy when I was 19 years old when she was working in Wayne NJ. It has taken me six years to be able to openly discuss my horrible treatment by her. I was about 10 weeks pregnant but at my first ultra sound I was told my baby was only the size of 5 weeks by another doctor at her old Wayne practice. A few weeks later I had gone back for an ultrasound to see how the baby was doing. I was excited to see Kara Goldman because my mother and sister had wonderful things to say about her. During the ultra sound she informed me of my miscarriage by saying, “yea there’s nothing there, just dead cells” I understand that doctors are not supposed to show emotion to these sorts of things but the casual cruel manner in which she told me was unacceptable. Immediately after she said those words she made plans for me to have a DNC a few days later to have the “dead cells” taken out. It was my first time being pregnant, I was beyond heartbroken at the loss of my… baby and was shown now compassion. Nothing had even been explained to me in medical terms. I arrived for my DNC & was as procedure hooked up to an iv & all that stuff. I began to panic. It had all happened so quickly I didn’t have time to process it. My mom was there with me and assured me that I didn’t have to go through with it. Ms Goldman gave me no other options. I expressed to her how I was feeling and she told me in NO medical terms basically your baby is dead and if I didn’t have it removed it would “scar my uterus and wouldn’t be able to have children again” she was rude, unprofessional, and completely uneducated. She gave me no alternatives, no options. Thankfully my mother told me we were leaving before the procedure started and I ripped the iv out myself. I found a new doctor. David Garfinkel in Morristown. This experience was the opposite of my experience with Ms Goldman. I was given options. A DNC, a pill I could take in 2 sessions, or to miscarry my baby when my body was ready. I was told that 1/4 women experience miscarriage and choosing to miscarry when your body is ready will have no affect on having more children. My hand was held and for the first time through It all I felt like a human begin. I was showed true compassion. I can’t begin to express the emotional trauma this woman inflicted on me and it has taken so many years for me to talk about it freely. I miscarried on my own, where I was able to grieve in my own way. Today I have 2 healthy children. I wouldn’t recommend this woman if she were the last doctor out there. Shame on you

I had large fibroid and my right ovary removed by Dr Goldman. I found her to be very professional and knowledgeable about a woman's reproductive issues. I appreciate doctors who are straight to the point and don't sugarcoat, and she is like that. She even called me the night before surgery to discuss what to expect. The surgery and all the post-ops went well. I have no complaints. And kudos to her surgical scheduler, Stephania. She kept me well informed and was on top of all my paperwork. Thanks again ladies!!

I feel bad for great physicians who get bashed on the internet but can never respond because of patient privacy laws. Especially Dr. Goldman. I met Dr. Goldman when I was pregnant with my second child soon after moving to the area. My friend used her for her second child and loved her. I really love her and the SMG OB practice. I felt like she listened to me and respected me. Her office staff was very nice too. Her partner ended up delivering me - I wish it could have been her. I plan to continue seeing her now for my GYN needs. Something to know - she is not an alarmist, which is good for a hormonal pregnant woman. Her decisions of tests being ordered, etc, are completely reasonable.

This woman is by far the most horrible and unprofessional doctor my family has ever encountered. I wish I could giver her 0 stars because she does not even deserve one singular star. My mother has had fibroids for years and started going to Dr. Goldman because she was in pain. After numerous visits, Dr. Goldman did not tell my mother how direly she needed the surgery. My mother is scared of surgery and if she is told it is not necessary and only optional, she will not go through with it. After being in pain for so long my mother finally scheduled a surgery a couple months out, but little to our knowledge it was not soon enough. After a night of severe pain we took my mother to the ER one night to find out she was in SEPTIC SHOCK. Her kidneys were failing because her fibroids were rotting inside of her body. She had an emergency hysterectomy, and was in the ICU for days. Not ONCE did Dr. Goldman follow up with my mother, come see her in the hospital (that she performed her surgeries… at), nothing. This woman does not deserve to treat patients and deal with peoples' health for a living. She is my current gynecologist as well but I clearly will no longer be seeing her.

minus all the bad reviews on here, i went in and was very happy with Dr. Goldman she is truly great!

By far the worst experience I have ever had with a doctor. I made an appointment to talk about future pregnancy. Upon walking in the room she immediately started questioning me in an interrogation like manner. She told me I needed to have surgery to have my thyroid removed before I could even think about getting pregnant (I responded to thyroid medication within 2 months and am no longer hyperthyroid, and I was barely subclinical in the first place. My endocrinologist and I already discussed this). I’m literally disgusted by this so called professional. She was also so condescending about the fact that I’m on an antidepressant and rattled off a list of issues that my hyperthyroidism and antidepressant could cause in the baby. Little did she know I’m a NICU nurse and I was shocked about the way she was going about explaining things. She’s a joke. Never ever ever go to this woman.

I have to schedule appointments with Dr. Goldman well in advance because she is in high demand. Definitely worth the wait because she is very thorough and compassionate.
