Tried to rip off my insurance. Complete liar and con artist. She never believed anything I said, she'd have to look up the news stories herself. And she told me I needed a urine test (UA) but I referred myself, not the courts! She Is a bully and abuser herself.

I’ll start with some positives: Karen was affordable with my insurance copay. That’s actually all that was good about my experience. I’ve never had a therapist tell me that I should be working menial jobs and having ambitions beyond that is delusional and entitled before but here we are. She lacks compassion, she injects her personal biases and opinions into treatment (she insinuated that I was of a lower social class than her practice was appropriate for), she told me she would refused to see me as a patient if I pursued a career in legal sex work (a therapist refusing to treat a vulnerable population. Yikes.) and made sure I knew that she didn’t approve of that lifestyle. I have been in treatment for about ten years now and I’ve never met a provider who had so little sensitivity and compassion for a client in a vulnerable state. I left every appointment feeling beaten down, judged, and suicidal - it’s caused problems for me in my home life, and her judgments of me are something… I’m bringing to a new provider to work through the damage this woman has done. She refused to set up a plan to get me on a life track that made me want to live and instead tried to force me into one she thought was appropriate for me. I cannot stress enough how humiliated I felt coming out of every appointment and I will likely be writing a letter of complaint to DORA.

Dr. Higginbotham has a great sense of humor. She's intelligent. However I had a troubling experience with her. She not only mis-diagnosed me, she had a pretty condescending and annoyed attitude while she was doing it. It's one thing to mis-diagnose someone, it's another thing to demonstrate a lack of awareness into more current research, but to do all of that with a crappy tone? Not cool!
