Dr. Karen Jane Mcrae, MD

I have had three surgeries under Dr. McRae and there is no other Doctor I would go to. She is a matter of fact type person, which I like -even though she called me Missy!), and she has the skills to do the best possible procedure for her patients.

Dr. McRae was very informative and more than willing to answer any/all questions I had pertaining to my upcoming Achilles repair.

Very thorough examination and multiple treatment options. Excellent Doc and staff!!

Dr. Mcrae is very thoughtful in her diagnosis and she take the time to listen to my concern. Her nurse was very nice and polite and I felt welcomed by everyone.

Both of my feet were bothering me from having 85 years of FLAT FEET. I saw a Podiatrist to see if he could help and after taking x-rays he said that I needed surgery and was to old for it and he could not help me. I mentioned it to my internist and asked for a second opinion. He recommended Dr. Mcrae. When I finally got a appointment I had about 6 or 7 x-rays on my feet. When Dr. Mcrae came in she was very cordial and asked me what my problems were. She proceeded to tell me what was causing the problems, in great detail. She was able to rid me of one problem just by showing me a new way to lace my shoes which elliminated a great deal of pain in my right foot. She also set me up to have Physical Therapy for my other problems. I asked her about being too old for surgery and she said that it was not age but physical condition that determined surgery and if I needed it she would do it. In leaving she said if I was still having problems just call for an appointment. I have had… many doctors in the past 85 years and I would rate her number two on my best doctor list (my internest would be number one). My only regret is that I can only give her five stars. l

Based on the other reviews and my own first experience, I may admit that at first she may not have the hold your hand bedside manner, but the more I see her, the more I really like her. She is no nonsense and confident. I'd suggest look at her background. She seems to be pretty darn good at what she does. The doc that referred me to her told me if he had to have surgery on his Achilles, she would be the one he would want doing it. That is one heck of a recommendation. She just performed surgery on my Achilles. Now Wataugo Ortho in JC may not be great for getting you in and out fast, but do you want to see someone who is really good, or just see someone. I'll follow up when all this is done but so far, I'm going to give her 5 stars.

Very demeaning and rude..."fussed" at me for asking questions concerning my sons my sons ankle fracture...I would drive a long distance to see someone else so I would not have to see her again!

I had a fracture which she did not properly treat nor diagnose properly. I am now seeing another ortho who advised me that fracture had healed 0% and I required surgery to heal properly. She was not friendly nor helpful in any way. I would advise not to see her.

Dr. McRae could probably be a good surgeon, but my experiences with her have been poor. This is mainly attributed to her uncaring behavior. She fails to properly help her patient understand procedures she is about to perform which makes it difficult for the patient to make informed decisions concerning his/her heatlhcare. She consistently talks "down" to her patients. She doesn't appear to care if her patient is in pain, even though alternative treatments may be available. I would definitely NOT recommend Dr. McRae for surgery when other options are available.
