Dr. Karen M Patashny, MD

We left the pediatric practice because of her. During one of my son's infant visits, she told me my breast milk "wasn't cutting it" and I needed to switch to formula feeding because he was too skinny. She never bothered to look at our family history - everyone there is tall and skinny, and this was the norm for our kids. She really made me feel inadequate. She also called us out when we went to see her for a sore throat on a Sunday. My son had frequent strep throat infections, and we don't wait. When we suspect a sore throat, we go in right away to "nip it in the bud." She told us, angrily, and in no uncertain terms that we were wasting her time. She had better things to do on a Sunday (she was scheduled to be there anyway), and that my son's illness "could wait." We switched pediatric providers right away. I don't ever want to see her again.

Never let your children see this doctor

I saw Patashny once for a sick visit for one of my kids. Her bedside manner was appalling. Saying things in front of my children that weren't necessary, talking about things other than the issues we were there for, but most importantly finally talking about my childrens autoimmune disease like it was something that was all in our heads (it's not, it's Celiac disease), and then making them feel badly by talking negatively about the "gross" gluten free food that are not a choice but a necessity in our lives. I could go on and on. The second time we saw her was again a sick visit and she was the only doctor available. My daughter has suspected strep and was terrified of the throat culture (she's little, please cut her a break). Instead of easing her into it, she was very forceful, very rough, and very crude during the test. She should NOT be a pediatrician, and I will refuse to allow her to treat my children again.

i have had a couple of incidents with Dr Patashny. As the other comments indicate she is rude, condescending and arrogant. Whenever I call to make an appointment I refuse to see her. In an emergency I would rather take my kids to the minute clinic at CVS.She told me I should be putting sunscreen on my dtr, I told her I did everyday before going to daycare and she looked her up and down and said she didn't believe it, my husband is dark and I am white and my daughter takes after him. There were a couple of other comments that were uncalled for.In general I do not like the office much, but I haven't changed pediatricians because my kids rarely get sick so we rarely go there.Most of the staff is rather cold and very unpleasant

I would NEVER recommend this doctor to anyone I know. It was overall the WORST experience I have ever had with a Pediatrician. I took my 8 year old son to his well visit and this was the first time using Dr. Patashny. The moment she walked in the room she was rude, condisending, and unprofessional. She spoke about sensitive issues about my sons health and growth in front of him, when she should have addressed them afterwards with him out of the room. When we addressed some academic issues my son is having at school, she suggested he might have some unknown "syndrome" (that we couldn't do anything about) and said "it would just mean he won't be an "engineer".)All this was said in front of my child. After she left, my son broke into tears, wanting to know what she was talking about and what was wrong with him? I was mortified with her level of unprofessionalism. Anytime, I tried to ask a question I was talked over and given a sarcastic comeback, as if my questions were attacking… her. I left this appt. shaken and upset. My husband and I complained to the office about Dr. Patashny and are now looking for another practice. I hope this review spares someone else and their child the mortifying experience we had.

I saw Dr. Patashny for the first time with my son this past week and it was probably the worst experience with any physician I've ever had ! She was extremely rude and her bedside manner was appauling. From the moment she entered the room she was on the attack and did everything from calling my 2 month old "piggish" (despite his eating intake to be exactly where it should be), and insinuating that I was a "bad mommy" who leaves her child on his back all day and uses bottles to soothe him rather than any other calming technique. When I tried to explain to her that my son DOES have tummy time, as per instructed at my last visit with another of the physicians at this practice, she ignored me and kept harping about my child's head and threatening to put a helmet on him to "fix" his flat spot ! Any time I attempted to talk to her about any criticism she raised (which flowed from her mouth like venom throughout the visit) I was ignored, talked over, and essentially scolded based on her… assumptions rather than any facts.I will NEVER utilize this doctor again and am seriously considering finding another practice to patronize as neither myself nor my son need this kind of aggravation.
