Dr. Karen Mary Toujouse, MD

Dr Toujouse is warm, kind and professional. I was nervous about my appointment and immediately after meeting her, I was at peace.

I’ve had several appointments with Dr. Toujouse for two different pregnancies and she is very impersonal and non-responsive to patient needs or questions. She calls you darlin and speaks with a southern drawl which at first covers her underlying patronizing approach to patient care. When you leave you realize none of your questions have actually been answered or concerns addressed. Thankfully both my pregnancies were healthy and I did not have any high concern medical issues. If you’re looking for a drive thru medical experience with someone who doesn’t care to get to know their patients and are a relatively healthy person this doctor would be great for you, looking for anything more you will be sadly disappointed. I think she would be a better fit working for an insurance company than hands on patient care.

My daughter is 18 and was a patient of Dr Arena, whom we loved, before she left. My daughter had some issues and we needed to see a provider a few weeks ago and saw one of the NP's. My daughter has many health issues and had never had an internal etc. The NP was abrupt and dismissive to questions. I was extremely dissapointed as this has been my practice for 30 years. Any way we saw Dr Toujousse today for a follow up and she was amazing. Talkative, attentive, informing, etc. Great bed side manner. My daughter (who has lots of negative experiences with drs due to all her health issues) absolutely loved her.

I interacted with Dr. Toujouse on one occasion following an emergency surgery at South Shore Hospital. Dr. Toujouse was not the surgeon, but on call the next day. I had a burst ectopic pregnancy, lost my left fallopian tube and had to have 4 units of blood. Dr. Toujouse "evaluated" me the next day. She approached me while I was receiving a blood transfusion, I still had two IV's in me, a catheter, I hadn't walked since arriving at the hospital 15 hours before and was still very heavily medicated. The first thing Dr. Toujouse said to me was how wonderful young and healthy I was and that I could go home that day! I am 38 y.o., had just had my first surgery, lost a planned pregnancy, AND I had a severe reaction to the pain medicine prior to surgery, where I crashed and had a team of nurses and ER doctors revive me before rushing me to the operating room. I had barely processed what had happened to me, and here was this stranger complimenting me and telling me to pack up and go home. It… was so unnervingly cold, I will never allow this doctor to provide me care and have asked at my practice to make note of that in my file.

I've seen Dr. Toujouse two times post missed miscarriage/D&C. She was super friendly, empathetic, and very easy to talk to. She took her time with me... not once did I feel rushed with her. I'm bummed that I have to see someone else for my next appointment!
