Dr. Karin Elizabeth Curtiss, PhD

Late to 2 of our 3 appointments, and did not extend the appointment duration to make up for it. So I ended up with one 45 minute appt, and one 40 minute appt. She really liked to small talk for the first 10 minutes of every appointment, and I am not the type to lead the conversation so I felt like I wasted even more time. She would much rather tell me how to do things different in my life than help me manage my emotions. I really wanted to like her, and gave her a few chances, but I ended it because I just felt like it wouldn't get better.

I believe this provider may care more about money than truly helping. I am writing this as I do not want someone truly seeking care in short order to be tipped over the edge by someone who may not have the best interest of the patient in mind. Dr. Curtiss informed me she didn’t have time to verify my documents, but was able to “briefly review my insurance” (which was in the same attachment as other docs) and she was not in network/covered. She then canceled and blamed the fact I did not return forms “timely” as the reason. What she didn’t realize is that the name on my insurance card is a misnomer, and I actually have an open access PPO. However, the plan name on the insurance card typically indicates an HMO. On Thursday I scheduled an appointment online with Dr. Curtiss for initial session via FaceTime for the following Monday at 1:00 PM. That Sunday evening, I received paperwork that stated it needed to be returned by 8 am the following day; which was the same Monday my appointment… was scheduled for. This was less than a 24-hour turnaround. Unfortunately, I wasn’t able to return the paperwork until 10am as I was out the entire evening. 30 minutes before our meeting she sent a text stating since she didn’t have an opportunity to review my forms since I sent them in 2 hours late and therefore, she would not join our session. Oddly enough while she wasn’t able to review my forms (a simple signature on 2 documents) She did have a chance to review my insurance card info which was in the same packet. Very suspicious to me she was able to quickly analyze my insurance, but subsequently didn’t have time to validate signatures contained in the same attachment? I’m happy I was able to experience this before actually establishing a relationship and will not be moving forward with her services.

Really frustrating knowing this person. Bad bad bad person

I can't say enough about Dr. Curtiss. She has been a great asset in making many tough decisions and always has sound advice.
