Dr. Karl Melvin Ahlswede, MD

Dr Ahlswede cared for my mother during the last days of her life. He took the time to thoroughly understand our wants and wishes, he explained our care options in a compassionate and kind way, and recommended a course of treatment that met my mother’s needs. Karl and his team were consistently attentive to mom and communicated regularly with us throughout her stay in hospice. At an otherwise difficult time, Karl was a ray of light and comfort. I couldn’t ask for a better doctor.

My husband and I recently met with Dr. Alswhede in light of his advanced prostate cancer diagnosis. What a kind, caring man. Thankful to have someone like Dr. Alswhede in our corner.

I’d like to thank Dr Karl Ahlswede for listening to a msg I left to cancel a appt because I couldn’t breathe too good. He recognized that I was apparently in distress. Dr Ahlswede then cld me, my phone was off, he tried my sister, she was at work and didn’t see he called. He then called 911, and the Police & medical personnel were right at the foot of my bed. I was taken to Lankanau Hospital and it was founded that not only did I have a COPD event but I was having several small heart attacks. Without Dr Ahlswedes, attuitive and professional wherewithal l would probably not be writing this acknowledgement of a wonderful, kind and compassionate man. He spent a good hour on the phone with me on a Saturday trying to help me make a life saving decision. His guidance was impeccable, yet I was the one who made the decision. I would like to thank Dr. Ahlswede, he saved my life. I can’t say enough about his wonderful wife, Sandy, and the case manager at Lankenau who works with Sandy Ahlswedes… wife, who also was involved with my care in the hospital, set up Hospice for me and I’m home after 5 days in ICU Stepdown, already seen by the Hospice nurse manager. The staff at the Drs office, Missy and others and the hospital were incredibly kind and thoughtful. I am honestly so grateful that he heard that I was in more distress than I had thought and followed through with getting help to me. Dr Ahlswede, I thank you from the bottom of my heart. Although I’m very ill, I’ve got a lot more living to do, if not for you, things most likely would have turned out a lot differently. Thank you, all of you, I’m forever grateful to have a competent, compassionate, involved Doctor, whose actions resulted in me being with my loved ones which is so important to me. Thank you, God bless all of you.

Dr. Karl was a godsend for our family. Although we had known him less than 48 hours, he provided such attention and compassion.

Dr. Ahlswede is not only a brilliant, compassionate, and responsive physician but a person who genuinely cares about people and has impeccable ethics/values. Highly recommend!!

HAPPY TO SEE A REVIEW BELOW FROMA DOC I HIGHLY RESPECT, BUT I HARDLY NEEDED VALIDATION. DOCS.LIKE DR. S ARE TOO RARE TO COM BY TODAY..IN A TIME WHEN DOCS STARE AT A WATCH OR CLOCK OR MAKE FOR A DOOR HANDLE, WELL THAT IS WHEN DR. A REALLY STARTS TO LISTEN. IT IS NOT THAT HE IS SMART OR ARTICULATE--IT IS THAT HE RESPECTS THE WAY IN WHICH, MAYBE FOR GOOD OR BAD, THAAT IS PATIENT WANTS TO LIVE--OF COURSE, HE WILL TRY TO INSPIRE YOU TO LIVE LIFE TO THE FULLEST, BUT HE UNDERSTANDS PEOPLE MAKE CHOICES AND COMPROMISES THAT THEY CAN ONLY EXPLAIN TO THEMSELVES---I THINK DR, A IS THE TYPE OF DOC WHO CAN HELP YOU EXPLAIN IT TO OTHERS--FAMILY, DOCS, MEDB ADMINISTRATORS. IN YIDDISH, THE HIGHEST COMPIMENT ONE CAN PAY TO A PERSON ISS TO CALL HIM OR HER A "MENSCH"--THAT DESCRIBES DR. A. DON'T TAKE HIM FRO GRANTED, IN MY EXPERIENCE, ANDUNFORTUNATELY I HAVE HAD MY SHARE, THIS TYPE OF DOC, THIS TYPE OF MAN IS A RARE FIND AND TO HAVE HIM BE YOUR ADVICATE IS A BLESSING. HE DESERVES THE UTMOST RESOECT… FROM PATIENTS AND THOSE WHO WORK WITH HIM.
