Dr. Kate Elizabeth Mccarn, MD

I had two serious skin operations. One on my head that made a hole the size of a large silver dollar, or larger, down to the skull. The other took the tip of my nose off and had to be replaced with skin from my forehead - a skin flap operation. Dr. McCarn did the reconstruction on both. She was perfect in her work; completely open with what had to be done and always there for follow up or questions. I was disappointed when she moved from NY Presbyterian Weill Cornell because I was not sure I would have been as confident in another surgeon. But, fortunately, there have been no more skin cancers as serious as these. I will always be grateful that she was there when I needed a physician of her abilities.

I had a terrible accident at the end of April, while on a 5 day vacation to New York. I am from California, so I was a long way from home. I was immediately admitted to New York Presbyterian and after many xrays and MRIs I was told that I would be needing reconstructive surgery. That's when Dr. McCarn and her staff entered the picture. They are young (which I really liked because I felt that they were fresh and knew all the latest technology), professional, and immediately put me at ease. They explained all of my options in a no-nonsense way but were sympathetic at the same time. I had broken multiple bones in my face (nose, orbital bone, palette, and cheek area) and would have to have my mouth wired shut for approximately 3 weeks. I had also incurred a neck injury which complicated my upcoming surgery. The decision I made, rather than flying back home to California, was to stay in New York for the next 6 weeks and have Dr. McCarn perform the surgery. It turned out to be one… of the best decisions I have ever made. I was going through a lot emotionally and physically, but at no time did I doubt my decision, because of Dr. McCarn's amazing skills and bedside manner. Upon returning to California, my friends and family did not know what to expect. They were shocked to see that I didn't look like I ever had such extensive facial injuries or surgery. In fact, the majority of them thought I looked better.While recuperating in New York, I lost my job. One day after returning to California, I was offered a new job making more money and having a better position. At no time was there any concern about the injuries I had sustained, because they were not visible. The only thing I would change about this scenario, is that I wish Dr. McCarn practiced here in California. I have nothing but the highest of respect, regard, confidence and trust in Dr. McCarn.

Dr. Mccarn removed a hemangioma from my son's lip. She recognized, as parents, that we were very nervous and hesitant to removed something that wasn't causing any trouble. She talked us through our fears and made us feel comfortable that we were making the right decision. The surgery went smoothly and healed beautifully. Highly recommend her for this as well as for cosmetic filler injections. Quite a pro!

Two years ago, I had my thyroid removed due to thyroid cancer. Unfortunately, the incision didn't heal well. It attached to my windpipe and left a very noticeable scar. My surgeon was terribly upset (honestly, more than I was) about how it had healed and recommended that I see Dr. McCarn, a plastic surgeon, to fix it. She was absolutely lovely. I was nervous about being awake for the procedure, and she allowed my husband to stay in the office. During the procedure, she talked me through each step and was very gentle. She answered all of my questions, was extremely caring and respectful, and has done several follow up appointments to make sure the scar is healing well. Her receptionist has also been very nice and helpful when making appointments, even when I need to do end of the day appointments to make it from work. Highly recommend.

My experience with Dr. McCarn and her team was better than I could have ever imagined, from the first appointment 3 months ago, to my most recent follow up visit. She is prompt, thoughtful, detailed oriented, sensitive, and most importantly an excellent physician. She takes as much time as necessary to answer questions and makes the experience as pleasant as possible. I couldnt be happier with my results or my doctor.

My son had to restructure his forehead, the doctor researched this procedure just to see if it would work for him. She kept in touch with us, was every caring, would work with us in every possible way she could. I would definately recommend her to other people.

Dr. McCarn is a breath of fresh air in New York. She is new here and I just started seeing her a few months ago - wish I had met her a decade ago. The last plastics guy I was seeing was charging me twice as much with results that were half as good. She doesn't push to fill every nook and cranny, listens AND answers my questions. After my last visit, SHE called me to see how I was doing and to see if I was happy with the results!!??
