Dr. Katherine Christine Fichtel, MD

Dr. Fichtel is the first Psychiatrist to ever truly listen to me and care enough to research all options. I didn't think medication was the right option for me until she helped me change treatments and Im doing better than ever.

Horrible and just God awful psychiatrist shes the female version of Dr. Kevorkian I've seen patients die under her care please if your reading this GET OUT!!!!

SHe put in the time to help me and was able too get me on the right meds. I will go to NYU if I need help again

I was unhappy about being hospitalized but I did find it helpful. I liked Dr. Fichtel and my nurses. I was there for 4 days.

I chose to seek care voluntarily at NYU for significant depression, suicidal ideation, and anxiety. I was looking for support and help dealing with my feelings and past history of significant trauma. Instead of receiving any support or help, I was criticized by Dr. Fichtel and her team. I was feeling terribly and ended up feeling much worse about myself after being subjected to her treatment. It was truly the most horrendous experience. I don't think she should be treating seriously depressed patients. She lacks empathy. It's very hurtful when you are seeking help and instead of receiving any help or compassion you are judged and made to feel less than and that your feelings aren't valid. I definitely will not try to see care at NYU again. Truly absolutely terrible experience. I feel very sorry for the other patients she is supposed to be 'treating' as well.

She seems nice enough, but her knowledge and skill are lacking. Her bedside manner is not great, she is very dismissive, and doesn’t listen at all. Over the course of a few meetings, we spoke a total of less than 30 minutes. Perhaps she is more qualified to treat certain disorders, but her understanding of OCD, how it manifests, and how it is treated is severely lacking.

Hard to believe this is a doctor who charged with the care of those at the lowest point of their lives. My family member was recently seen by her and I was shocked at the way she treated him—like an imbecile. I guess because he has a psychiatric illness she felt that was necessary, to shame him into accepting her view. That resulted in a disaster. I resent her approach and her lack of “expertise”. But most of all, I resent what her actions say about her views toward the mentally ill. Clearly, she views them as second class patients. A relic of the old days. No wonder psychiatry can’t change its image—how can it when doctors like this represent it at the largest institutions in the country?

Thorough and helpful when I was in the psych ward. It was a tough stay but I feel like I got great care.
