Dr. Kathleen Cannon Barry, MD

I tried to see her one time. I did the pre-bloodwork she wanted done and when I showed up at the office, they said she wasn't seeing patients that day (even though I had a print out of appt time/date with me). Her nurse then called and told me it was my mistake and never took blame for THEIR mistake. She told me the doc would look at my bloodwork and call me, never happened. I think the doctor and nurse maybe need to retire, find greener pastures if patient care isn't their top priority. I had 2 family members going to her for years and they said the same-the doctor has seen her better days, maybe retiremement would be easier on her.

I have been a patient of Dr. Barry's for over 20 years. She will do what you say you need, but there is a quiet contempt in her subtle body language. Her growing apathy is evident. She has a flat affect and shows no animation, personality, nor charisma. That actually does not bother me, but for the fact her patient care is becoming a problem. Starting with my gall bladder attack; She disagreed with me and told me she doubted it was a gall bladder issue. She did send me for an abdominal scan to see what I was experiencing. The results showed I had a dilated gall bladder duct; which is evident of passing a gall stone. Next...I had a very painful hip flexor. She told me is was tendonitis and told me to take ibuprofen 2x a day for a few weeks and it would go away. I ended up at sports medicine when it did not resolve. It turned out I had a torn psoas muscle and needed physical therapy. Last and finally, because I will not go back now. I went to her after being sick for weeks and it would… not resolve. My symptoms were that of a bacterial infection, and she dismissed my symptoms before even examining me, and told me its hay fever season and its allergies. She said this before even looking at my throat which is infected. I have all the symptoms of a bacterial infection. I do not have symptoms of hay fever; no itchy watery eyes, nor sneezing. My throat is red and inflamed, and my tonsils are extremely swollen. It hurts to swallow. I have junk in the back of my throat constantly draining. I have a low grade fever with lethargy. She tells me it's just hay fever. She made the insulting comment, "you seem to be convinced it's bacterial, so I will give you and antibiotic." Wow...really? I'm tired of telling her what is actually wrong with me, her disagreeing, and then finding out I was right and she was wrong. I pay a $30 co-pay to do her work. Dr. Barry seems burned out and contemptuous toward her patients. She needs to retire along with her grumpy nurse. The office manager Ollie is the most friendly and competent person there.

I have been going to Dr. Kathleen Barry for years. I think she deserves a lot higher rating. I have never had a problem getting in to see her in an emergency. I have never waited more than 10-15 minutes. I have no complaints about her staff!

I have been a patient as well as my husband for many years. We have always received the medical guidance that we have needed and never experienced what these other patients are speaking about in the other reviews. My daughter recently started going to Dr. Barry and lives out of town for school. They have been very accommodating and friendly. I understand that everyone has different experiences and different personalities. That is why we are fortunate to have so many doctors to choose from. I personally don't have any issues with this practice. (I don' feel that the office is dirty at all, I am so surprised how people see things so differently) The only part of the review that I cannot give 5 stars is the follow up after visit. I haven't experienced this but I am not sure that all doctor's offices do that. Is that customary?

I am appalled by the (lack of) care that my spouse has received from this doctor, but that is only the beginning. The reviews by others regarding the uncleanliness of the office and waiting a well past the appointed time, due to pharmaceutical rep visits, are true. It has happened to us several times. We have also been subjected to condescending rudeness on the part of Dr Barry AND her nurse (the only civil person in this office is the receptionist). Her argumentative nature is extremely frustrating for patients who attempt to be part of the healthcare "team". She also consistently refuses to coordinate care with specialists, when needed. If the only "healthcare" you need is a quick, uncomplicated physical, this MIGHT be the doctor for you. If, on the other hand, you have real Heath issues, avoid this doctor like the plague, because she clearly does not want to be bothered.

Have been going to Dr. Barry for at least 6 years, have always found the staff personable and Dr. Barry to be pleasant and accommodating. She is a fairly reserved individual, but that works fine for me. She has lost a lot of weight through sheer personal effort (in response to nasty commenter). She has an eye for art; her office is full of eye candy. Will not be switching doctors.

Despite the comments by other reviewers, I have been very happy at Dr Barry's office. I have been a patient for 5 years and find her to be very caring and compassionate. I have never felt rushed during an appointment. Her office staff is very friendly and professional

I picked Dr. Barry off an insurance list. I wish I'd read reviews about her first. For starters, her office was dirty. I mean, it was grimy like someone hadn't been there in years with a mop or sponge. Secondly, everyone in her office and the doctor herself are morbidly obese. For someone who's a healthcare professional, that's a big red flag for me. If you can't take care of your own health, you surely won't care about mine. Even though I was the only patient in the office, Dr. Barry took her sweet time getting to me. After about 40 minutes, I finally got ushered into the exam room by the assistant who was so tired from leading me the two or three yards to the room that she had to actually rest her head on the exam table! As I was not an established patient yet, Dr. Barry was supposed to perform a physical during this visit. However, instead of performing a physical, she strode in and, without even introducing herself, gruffly told me I had to make a second appointment for a physical!… When I told her this was what this appointment was for (and I waited six weeks for it!), she argued with me. Finally, she relented and gave me my "physical". No lie, she took out her stupid little hammer and tapped my knees and the physical was over. And she billed my insurance company $240 for that. On the way out, the receptionist set up an appointment for me to have my bloodwork done. Because she didn't have a single clue about insurance, she randomly chose a bloodwork center--and, you guessed it--it wasn't covered by my insurance. Then, about two weeks after that appointment, I got a bill for my co-pay because the receptionist, who insisted I didn't have to pay one when I was there, realized she was wrong. This entire office is unprofessional and not worth risking your health over. I don't know what's going on in this office, but it's clear they aren't looking for real patients.

There may be worse doctors out there than Barry, but I doubt it. I found her consistently rude, argumentative and poorly trained. My husband and I picked her name off a list given to us by our insurance company. After just 3 appointments each, we FLED to another doctor. On my second appointment, scheduled for 10:30, she left me cooling my heels in her waiting room until 11:15 because a pharmaceutical sales rep had brought her a fruit smoothie. She sat within my hearing, eating and chatting with the sales rep, while I stared at my watch and thought about how late I would be for work. When she finally saw me, I told her I was upset to be left waiting. Her only comment was a shrug of the shoulders. On my third visit, the same thing happened. A sales rep appeared with food (clearly they know this guarantees them access!) and I was left to wait. On both occasions, I was the only patient in the office. I soon understood why her office was always so empty. During appointments, she generated… a feeling of distrust and argued over everything I related. On two occasions, she told me I could not be feeling what I reported feeling. (What I reported was accurately diagnosed by my next doctor as osteoarthritis. How could Barry miss such a common condition?) On an occasion when my husband was ill with what we suspected was a virus, I called Dr. Barrys office for an appointment. The receptionist told me in no uncertain terms that the doctor would NOT see him if he was sick. When I asked What sort of doctor doesnt treat people when they are sick? I was told, The doctor is more of a wellness facilitator. She generally just does physicals. It would be great if they would inform new patients of this strange policy BEFORE they get sucked into this office. I would not recommend Dr. Kathleen Barry to anyone, under any circumstance.
