Dr. Kathryn Elaine Mcneil, MD

Because of serious medical conditions I also find myself chronically depressed. I came to know Dr. McNeil when she joined her current practice where I see several other health care providers. Dr. M has a very caring spirit and she spends quality time with me. She shows care and concern for me and my condition and works hard to find just the right medication combination. Dr. McNeil shows concern for me as a person and has become an irreplaceable member of my health team. Since society has such a stigma around mental health conditions I think many don't seek out specialized care for their own conditions. I think the stigma is changing but changes take time. Let me just say to anyone who hesitates to see a mental health provider will see this and think twice. In the meantime Dr. McNeil you are one in a million and much thanks to you!!!

It’s too bad I can’t give 0 stars. The office staff was rude and difficult to deal with when I was trying to schedule my appointment. They require you to see a counselor/therapist before they will schedule you. (That’s normal) I already had, so they needed the counselor to fax over a statement saying that they had seen me. My counselor faxed the required paperwork over. I called a few days later to see if I could schedule my appointment. I was told that they had not received anything from my counselor. This went back and forth several times (This took 1.5 weeks) I even had my counselor fax the paperwork over again, but was still told that they had not received anything. Out of frustration I asked the woman on the phone if she was positive that they did not have any paperwork from my counselor. She told me to hang on and then came back and said that they had received my paperwork, but my birthday was incorrect so when they searched for my birth date it did not show up. (She found it by… searching my name) I was now able to schedule an appointment 4-5 weeks out. Now onto the day of the appointment. My appointment was scheduled at 2:30, but I was told to arrive one hour early so I could fill out paperwork. I had to make arrangements to leave work early, but I was more than willing because I really needed this appointment. I got a little hung up leaving work, and arrived at the office 10 minutes late. I walked up to the desk and attempted to check in for my appointment. The lady at the desk unapologetically told me that I could not be seen because I was "late". I pulled my phone out of my pocket and looked at the time 1:42 pm... 48 minutes before my scheduled 2:30 appointment and I was turned down. She said I wouldn't have time to fill out the paperwork. Bewildered, I asked if I got the paperwork filled out in time if I could see Dr. McNeil at 2:30. She said no. At this point I was nearly speechless because I was beyond angry. I went ahead and filled out the paperwork to prove a point and just to be sure this lady was telling the truth. I completed the paperwork and returned to the desk at 2:12, 18 minutes before my scheduled 2:30 appointment. Before I handed it over I asked if there was any way I could see Dr. McNeil that day and again I was told no. She attempted to reschedule me a little over 3 weeks away from that date. I kept my paperwork and told her I would let her know about the appointment. I have no idea what Dr. McNeil is actually like because I was not able to see her. I can tell you that the office staff is rude and her policy for how early you should show up to your appointment is ludicrous. I understand the need to draw a line, but I feel like I was treated unfairly. I feel like her policy could cost someone their life. The scenario I just described hit me pretty hard. I can't imagine how someone worse off than me would handle it. I will not be returning.

I waited almost three months for this appointment and all I got out of it was a medical bill. What an immense waste of time. When I go to a doctor with a problem I expect some sort of treatment, explanation, education, Something. It was very obvious that Dr. McNeil had no interest in treating me. I was told to go see someone else. I have a serious medical problem that needs to be treated. Now I have to wait another 3 months to see someone else. Half a Year just trying to get help and all I get is medical bills. These doctors should be ashamed of themselves.

I have been experiencing some severe depression since my son's (who died almost 7 years ago) birthday in February. I had tried to talk to my former psychiatrist about him before, and she was not at all receptive. "Get over it," she kept telling me. Yeah, right!! When I went to see Dr. McNeil, she was so amazing. Very compassionate, talked to me, let me talk, spent all the time I needed. Will definitely be switching to Dr. McNeil!! Staff was incredible, too! Extremely nice receptionist, and wonderful nurse!!

Dr. McNeil is a drug pushing quack. She refused to consider a very extensive list of very severe side effects to what she was prescribing, continually trying to attribute these symptoms to anything and everything other than KNOWN side effects to the drug. At one point, she said she consulted with the "pharmaceutical rep" about these things. Enough said.

I saw Dr Mcneil when she was a resident at UMC. I was an utter mess and she was amazing. She was caring and compassionate and she listened which was so important to me. If I could have brought her to MA with me when I left AZ I would have. I have seen other psychistrists/therapists since then but none have been as amazing as Kat was.
