Dr. Kathy Huang, MD

I had 2 surgeries with Dr. Huang. I had an ovarian dermoid cyst removal in 2012 with Dr. Huang. The dermoid cysts returned, and I needed the same surgery but bilaterally in 2023. I healed well from both robotic laparoscopic surgeries, and I have no complaints or complications.

Good excision surgery

The experience I had was positive. The surgery and recovery went well. I had a robotic hysterectomy in 2015. I am writing this now because Dr Huang deserves the recognition. There is a reason she is one of the best for robotic surgery.

My wife was a patient of Dr. Huang's at NYU Langone in 2014 and was treated by robotic surgery to remove uterine fibroids. During pre-op consultation Dr. Huang frequently checked her cell phone and could barely be bothered answering my wife's and my questions. More problematically, immediately following surgery my wife lost a lot of blood due to intra-abdominal bleeding requiring several blood transfusions. Luckily this was realized by the anesthesiologist while my wife was still in the post-op recovery room. This prompted a second surgery by another doctor to stop the bleeding. Dr. Huang did not check up on my wife in a timely manner during post-op or apologize for her mistake.

I was referred to Dr. Huang by my gynecologist for endometriosis 1.5 years ago. I had to wait about two months for a consultation. When we finally met, I found her knowledgeable if not especially warm.  Her staff scheduled my MRI and surgery about two months later.  I was told she was the best, worth the wait. Before going into surgery, I asked Dr. Huang to capture photos from the robotic laparoscopy.  She said she would, but didn't.  I had a follow-up appointment two weeks after surgery, which was brief, uninformative and held by video.  Now. 1.5 years later, the endometriosis pain I had before surgery is gone.  But that has not been the only outcome of my surgery. I made clear to Dr. Huang during my consultation that my husband and I wanted to have a family.  She told me that 6 months after surgery, we should have no problem conceiving naturally.  After trying for a year with no success, we want to see a fertility doctor who tells us that Dr. Huang's aggressive surgery left one… ovary completely unable to produce eggs, the other only barely able to produce eggs and one fallopian tube blocked.  Not once did Dr. Huang warn me that the surgery she was performing would drastically decrease my ovarian reserve or that there were risks of fertility complications.  On top of that, my endometriosis has returned and I have to have another surgery to remove an ovarian cyst.  I am devastated.  Needless to say, I will certainly be going to a different surgeon this time.

Sadly, I got some bad advice in switching my surgery to Dr. Huang (from Dr. Tessler, who is lovely) at the 11th hour. BIG MISTAKE. Although the two women work in the same office - under one roof - they (and their staff, included) could not be more different. As I sit here typing - with an incisional hernia from my procedure w/ Dr. Huang that requires surgical repair - I am heart broken and so incredibly disappointed. In person, Dr. Huang is relatively charming, but the minute she walks away, you are left in the hands of her aloof staff. All emails and calls to her are filtered through someone else, such as one of her clinical staff who take their sweet time and, often, provide incorrect and shoddy medical advice.

I had a Robotic Fibroids Surgery done from Doctor Kathy Huang at NYU. The main reason was for planing to have family soon and I explain her during my first visit. On the day of my surgery, once my surgery is over, I was in recovery room and she came to me while I was unconscious, she was explaining me how the surgery went but I couldn't get her fully. I don't understand why didn't she speak with my husband who is in waiting room? Also, when I had post visit, I though she will go over in details about surgery and do ultra sounds but nothing's happened - neither she spent enough time nor answer my questions. And when I asked questions about surgery she totally Ignore me and change the topic. Now after few months when I checked with my other Doctor by ultra sound recently I found that Fibroids still remaining inside of a uterus Cavity which supposed to be removed during Surgery and I think Doctor Kathy Huang explained me while I was unconscious she told me that she took all Fibroids… from Cavity and it's clear. Anyway the main point is her bedside manner, follow up before and after visit are very very poor and end result I am not much satisfied.

I would not recommend this doctor. Poor bedside manner, insensitive, flippant, casual attitude. Lacks compassion. I had a terrible surgical experience.

This physician is currently practicing in Flushing, New York. But I can only under her prior work place in california, but it is the same physician.I am writing this on behalf a family member who is chinese and does not speak English and wanted to relate her horrible experience with the doc that left my family member crying when reaccounting her visit. Overall rating:-uncaring-poor bedside manners-culturally insensitive. Despite herself being Chinese, she was not culturally sensitive either.
