Dr. Kelly Jean Hamel, MD

Dr. Hamel is such a charasmatic doctor and always makes me feel at ease. I’m about to deliver my second child with her and up to this point she has been absolutely great. I love her! I’m in the healthcare field myself and really look up to her for her bedside manners. I drive an hour to see her, wouldn’t have it any other way.

Dr Hamel is very caring, knowledgable, not a drug pusher, and has a calm demeanor.

I chose Dr. Hamel after moving to Sarasota from Bradenton. I found her office very professional and Dr. Hamel is great! She is very easy to talk to and very real. We are pregnant again and are of course using Dr. Hamel. I've also referred her to pregnant friends.

Hamel is a wonderful dr! Thankful to have her

Waits vary, if she had an emergency delivery etc. then it would take longer or they would reschedule your appt. This didn't happen to me more than twice with either of my babies.

Bad doctor. No follow up and constantly rushes you. I would not recommend. The nurses are nasty and clearly hate their jobs. Stay away!!

Horrible doctor. Never called me personally to bear bad news. Made her nurse do it. Not impressed with their staff either. Constantly feeling rushed and uneasy. This is the Walmart of obgyn practices. Stay away if you know what is good for you.

Terrible follow-up. Never returned my calls or notified me of my test results. Would not go back or recommend this doctor!!!

Dr Hamel is absolutely wonderful! She delivered my first child almost 3-years ago and as we prepare to move back to the Florida area we are already anticipating visiting her again! She never forgets who you are and always makes you feel important.

-She was always in a rush, I never spent more that 5 minutes in the room with her. I had to make it a point to tell her I had questions and concerns and she would just say "that's normal." -She did a cervical check at the hospital and broke the rest of my water WITHOUT my permission! -She insisted I be put on antibiotics since my group b results weren't back yet. I said no and requested for them to get the results before I consented to antibiotics. The hospital staff and herself used scared me about infections so for the safety of my baby, I agreed. -I was not at the hospital for even 1 hour before they insisted on starting pitocin. I said no way, and for 24 hours I had several nurses continue telling me that Dr. Hamel wanted me to start pitocin, telling me I'm risking infection if I try to progress naturally. I even had a call from her telling me those things. When I told her I wanted to progress naturally as long as possible she was not supportive of my wishes at all. She… kept saying "you're risking infection." "You're not progressing on your own." -I agreed to the smallest amount of pitocin after 24 hours, because I had a bunch of medical professionals telling me how unsafe it was for myself and baby to continue labor after 24 hours. I agreed...I couldn't get their repetative, negative remarks about risking my babies health out of my head. She also told me that I needed to start pitocin because I "shouldn't expect labor to be painless anyway." -After several hours Dr. Hamel asked if I wanted an epidural yet...I never wanted to take pain medications during labor but the pitocin was leaving me NO breaks between contractions. It was one constant pain that got worse each time. I was disappointed and still debating whether or not I could tough it out. Instead of being supportive of me Dr. Hamel goes "You don't need to be a hero..." and also told me "you won't dilate any further if you don't have time to let your body relax." -A short while after my epidural the nurse TRIED increasing the pitocin, while I was all drugged and tired...Even though they didn't know how far I had progressed from the first dose from several hours ago. -Finally, baby arrived...I told Dr. Hamel I wanted delayed cord clamping...She said "You can't because she's a preemie the NICU nurse needs to see her asap." They could have taken her vitals while she was skin to skin, but I wasn't aware at the time, sadly. -Didn't inform me what tore or how bad the tear was, I only knew from overhearing the nurses. -At my check up, said everything was good, said congrats again, gave me a list of physicians in the area and left. Yes, unfortunately I gave in to the "infections and risks" nonsense....But I foolishly thought I could trust her to keep my wishes in mind. I'd recommend her as a gynecologist, but I would never recommend her for an OB.
