Dr. Kenneth Bruce Ain, MD

I’ve been seeing Dr. Ain for over 18 years. I drive from North Carolina to Kentucky to see him because he is the absolute best thyroid oncologist in the world. I would not be alive today if it weren’t for Dr. Ain. He is thorough, cares for me and all his patients. He can be trusted totally. I drive yearly to Kentucky to see him and I am thankful that he is my thyroid oncologist.

If I could give him negative stars I would!!! He is an arrogant egotistical rude narcissist! I’ve never been treated so rudely by a doctor in my life. I wouldn’t recommend anyone going to him. There are by far better doctors!

My wife first became a patient of Dr. Ain's in Dec 2005 after 5+ years of continued recurrences of Papillary Thyroid Cancer (PTC) Tall Cell Variant (TCV). Prior to seeing him, she had 3 surgeries and 3 I-131 radioactive treatments in an attempt to destroy her cancer. She was treated by doctors in five different states and the growth of her cancer never stopped. We were told she wasn't a candidate for some of the more advanced treatments. On our first appointment with Dr. Ain, we had to wait 3 hours past our scheduled time to see him, and he explained he was dealing with a patient, but now his focus was on my wife. The appointment lasted for over 3 hours and there was another patient waiting to see him when we left at 9:30 pm. However, when we left the appointment, I was sure the 6 hour drive we had made to come to see him was well worth our time. Over the course of the next 6 months, he found her cancer, determined her cancer had become non-avid at absorbing the radioactive… iodine treatment, schedule her surgery, and had her receive 30 treatments of IMRT radiation. Now, 13+ years later, we are still grateful to have him as her doctor. We are also thankful for his Nurse Practitioner, who we see on most visits, because she is the 2nd most knowledgeable person we know of when it comes to treating this deadly disease. I do not see Dr. Ain as arrogant, I see him as being completely confident in his abilities. He has never made my wife feel inadequate or unimportant in any way. I have no doubt, he saved her life. Had we followed the directions of other doctors, I believe she would have died. If you can't handle his honestly, you can always choose a doctor who "sugar coats" it and doesn't give you the necessary advice needed to prolong your life. But, if that's the case, why go to a doctor at all? I want to be at my wife's side for many more years to come and, because of Dr.Kenneth Ain, I will have that opportunity.

I have never been examined more thoroughly! He is blunt and honest, two of the most important qualities I want in a doctor. Yes, he is arrogant, but he has a reason to be, he knows his stuff and is amazing at his job! What more could you ask for in a doctor? Yes, you have to wait, but he is worth the wait. He spent 3 hours with me my first visit, and I felt so much better after leaving his office. He helped me better understand my condition and my body. He is the best!

Intelligence can be read as arrogance to different people. He is blunt and truthful and I thank God for him being that way. He has explained everything in detail to me, and he truly only wishes that his patients have the best life possible. If he says you need to lose weight, he's not being mean, he's caring for your health. He told me I was obese, and I am, and he is helping me get healthy. He know that you have your best chance at being a fighter when you are healthy. As far as his bedside manner goes, I was just told that I still have cancer, and he could not have told me in a more sincere and caring way. He is aggressive in treatment and I appreciate that. I would not trust my care to anyone else. If you want someone to take the best possible care of you, he is your man. His staff is very friendly, and yes, sometimes you have to wait awhile, but I believe he is worth the wait. I am blessed to have him as my doctor and would recommend him to anyone.

Although my first visit to Dr Ain could not be described as enjoyable, he was very direct with me and my family. His course of treatment for my ATC and tall cell papillary thyroid cancer was agressive and difficult but I am a nearly four year survivor. I thank God for Dr. Kenneth Ain.

I was initially so excited to be so lucky to have someone like Dr. Ain to help me through thyroid cancer. I no longer feel that way. Even though Dr. Ain successfully treated me through my journey with cancer, his inability to treat me with respect and to answer my questions about all the many symptoms of things I have experienced since without making me feel like it is all in my head, has been so disheartening considering how I said from the beginning that I didn't mind his arrogance as long as he knew what he was doing. I now know there has to be more than that.
