Dr. Kenneth Hideo Akizuki, MD

I am reporting Dr. Akizuki and Golden State Ortho to the State Medical Board for the following reasons: 1- He recommended surgery quickly. I received three other opinions who noted he has a reputation for doing so and would not have recommended surgery. He was clearly unhappy to have to explain his reasoning to me and barely tolerant of the questions. 2- He and his office team were unprofessional and showed a high level of disrespect. He was frequently more than 30 minutes late to appointments, cancelled at the last minute, and entirely blew off the (rescheduled) last meeting that I worked very hard to get. The office staff was surly, condescending, and demanding. They refused to respond to emails, requiring repeated phone calls where one would wait on hold with no idea if someone would pick up. 3- His office retaliated against me for asking to file a complaint and refused to schedule an appointment after I indicated my dissatisfaction. Dr. Akizuki was never willing to hear the… complaint, nor did any administrator show a willingness to field it.

Dr. Akizuki completely misdiagnosed a fracture, putting my wife in a cast when the bones were misaligned (he neglected to ask for a side view X-ray), he did not listen at all when my wife explained that she was in an increasing amount of pain each day, and his office was incredibly unresponsive (not returning calls is never acceptable in this field). We had emergency surgery yesterday at Stanford (which involved rebreaking the bone and inserting a plate) and we hope to be on the path for full recovery, although the nerve damage may never be reversed. My wife's description of her pain provided an excellent clue as to the true problem - Dr. Akizuki did not follow up on this information but suggested that my wife might have a pain syndrome that is ill-defined at best

Dr Akizuki is outstanding. You may way a bit for appointments but he his excellent. Great bedside manner. Exceptional with his patients.
