Dr. Kenneth J Cherry, MD

When Dr. Kenneth Cherry was working at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN, he performed an exceptionally high-risk surgery on my mother. Dr. Cherry and his team, including the incomparable ICU staff, were not only brilliant, but also 100% dedicated to their work on behalf of each patient. Although our family will never know for sure, we are convinced that my mother would not have survived had it not been for Dr. Cherry.

My son had popliteal artery syndrome in both legs. He is doing great 3 years later. Dr. Cherry did a wonderful job. He has a great bedside manner and was very compassionate.

Dr. Cherry was dishonest with me about his history of having absolutely no cases of nerve damage out of “300-400 cases” while performing the specific surgery I needed. His bedside manner was poor and in my original appointments with him regarding the surgery he was skilled at making me feel belittled while I asked questions about the surgery and the risks and benefits of having it done. He was rushed and quite rude, and it was apparent my questions/concerns were inconvenient. However, despite his bedside manner, his claim of having had no record of nerve damage in this surgery encouraged me to choose him to perform my surgery, not one of the other two respected surgeons I was considering in the Charlottesville area (he specifically urged me not to see a Martha Jefferson Hospital surgeon who also performs this surgery, making an ill face while claiming he wasn’t qualified and would likely cause me nerve damage). While I clearly understood risks involved, I was shocked when I woke… up with permanent nerve damage to my face. He later denied his original claim, and admitted that the exact nerve damage I now have stemming from the surgery he same performed had had happened “many, many times” on his other patients. Suddenly, after seeing my complications, he at this point acted as if the permanent nerve damage was nothing and very common. He placed his hand on my left leg when he saw my level of disbelief after hearing the truth and cupped my hands in his. He told me that I “was one of the bravest people he’d ever met” and that “you cannot fake bravery.” The poor bedside manner was consistent through my entire time in his care. The morning after the surgery, he forcefully propped me up in the hospital bed telling me, “oh come on, it shouldn’t hurt THAT bad,” despite the fact that I had been pulled off of all pain medication besides Tylenol after having a rib resected from my neck, a scalenecromy, and a tube inserted draining the fluids from my lung (which he also claimed was not going to happen, when I earlier expressed my concern over the potential for a punctured lung). Trusting a dishonest surgeon, going under the knife with him, and waking up to later find he flat out lied about his history of nerve damage, the nerve damage I’ll carry on my face for the rest of my life, has been very traumatic, to say the least. In the months follieing the surgery, I was been diagnosed with and have been treated for PTSD. His narcissism has permanently affected my life. While Dr. Cherry has the reputation of being very skilled at what he does, to have lied about his history of nerve damage when asked prior to me giving consent to have him operate is highly, highly unethical.

He was very dismissive and a downright liar.

I think Dr Cherry is the most smartest and caring doctor ever. I lost a leg kidneys and he still saved my life. I met Jesus through all this happening and I would like to thank dr cherry for it all. I recommend him to Anyone and will always appreciate his kindness to me

Dr. Cherry is an outstanding vascular surgeon. He has performed multiple difficult and delicate vascular s urgeries on my wife for Takayasu's disease over a 25 year time span. We are very appreciative of all he has done for us. He is also a very nice gentleman.

Dr Cherry did my sons shoulder that was tied into the veins and arteries and the surgery was done perfect! The best doctor I have seen!!! Would recommend him the highest rating to any one who needs surgeries he does!!!!

Dr. Cherry is a wonderful surgeon and doctor. He saved my arms and solved my medical issue when other doctors could not figure out what was wrong. He performed two difficult surgeries and I recovered perfectly. He took great care of me and answered all my questions. I would not hesitate to go back to him or to have him take care of my children or any family member or friend.
